In our verse-by-verse study of Romans last time we finished our Expanded Translation: Rom 6:2; "We who have died to the sin nature, how shall we still live in it?"
We noted that one of the applications of the baptism of the Holy Spirit is retroactive positional truth. Retroactive positional truth breaks us free from the power of the trends of the old sin nature.
While imputed righteousness and subsequent justification is the basis for temporal blessing after salvation, the salvation ministries of the Holy Spirit provide the basis for breaking the old sin nature's ruler ship over human life.
These salvation ministries of the Holy Spirit are designed by God to provide the environment for temporal blessing from God's justice with maximum conveyance occurring when the believer has divine viewpoint from capacity from doctrine at spiritual maturity.
The environment cannot be the same as the Garden of Eden, since at that time man and woman were perfect people in a perfect environment.
The fall of Adam and the woman destroyed the situation of perfect people and perfect environment and ceded the rule of the world to the devil and the devil cannot provide perfect environment for mankind, even though he uses all of his resources in his attempt to recreate that perfect environment along with self-improved people without God.
When the sin nature is the sovereign over human life every attempt to create environmental improvement intensifies human good and becomes evil. The sin nature intensifies the evil of human good and the evil of sin.
Therefore the salvation ministries of the Holy Spirit are specifically designed to provide the best environment for temporal blessings from God's justice in any environment.
The environment provided by the salvation ministries of the Holy Spirit are internal because God the Holy Spirit does not improve or whitewash the devil's world.
Internal means that these ministries of the Holy Spirit are related to both the body and the soul. They relate to the body where the old sin nature dwells; they also relate to the soul where God's Word of truth must reside and circulate.
Remember that the old sin nature indwells the human body genetically and influences the human soul toward sin, good, and evil from that position in the body.
From its genetic headquarters in the human body the old sin nature constantly seeks to rule the souls of people.
But the Holy Spirit's five ministries at salvation restrain this activity of the old sin nature. They are designed to provide an encapsulated environment in the devil's world that is actually superior to the perfect environment that Adam and the woman had in the Garden of Eden for everyone who believes in the Lord Jesus Christ.
This brings us to a brief study of the salvation ministry of God the Holy Spirit. In order to provide a spiritual environment in the devil's world where the old sin nature rules human life, God the Holy Spirit has provided five separate ministries at the point of salvation so that we can have an environment better than the original environment of the Garden of Eden.
Remember that the Garden of Eden was a period of perfect people in perfect environment as a perfect situation. We need something much greater than what our original parents had, but that situation cannot be duplicated because since the fall of man Satan is the ruler of this world and the old sin nature is the ruler over human life through spiritual death.
So the change in dispensation from Israel to the Church was designed to provide a royal family for the Lord Jesus Christ who is in session at the right hand of the Father. This new royalty is a battlefield royalty that is associated with His victory over satan and His new title of king of kings and lord of lords.
Jesus Christ is God and therefore He has eternal royalty, and as eternal royalty He has a royal family in the Father and in the Holy Spirit.
Jesus Christ in His humanity is the also the son of David, and therefore He has a royalty and royal family in the line of David and the dynasty of David the greatest king of Israel.
But Jesus Christ in His battlefield title as King of kings and Lord of lords did not have a royal family. And so the age of Israel is interrupted and a new dispensation begins for the purpose of calling out a royal family for the Lord Jesus Christ in association with His new royal title.
As members of the body of Christ we are a part of that royal family and as members of that royal family we have the privilege to have certain things that no believers in past dispensations had as part of their salvation.
The environment for God's royal family in the devil's world during the Church Age is actually provided by these five ministries of God the Holy Spirit at the moment a person makes salvation adjustment to God's justice by believing in Jesus Christ.
The provision for the establishment of the necessary encapsulated environment in the devil's world comes from five specific ministries of God the Holy Spirit at salvation. This is the environment that is required for God's royal family to grow from spiritual infancy to spiritual adulthood and it is the only way we can glorify God.
In God's Word of truth the emphasis is not on production. Emphasis is place on capacity from doctrine and spiritual growth.
When believers are apostate the emphasis is on production, and the implication and allegation is that whenever we do certain things for God, God is going to bless us.
This concept is not only legalism; it is blasphemy. The apostate church falls for DEI because it has rejected or does not understand the DIE concept of spiritual death combined with the ministries of God the Holy Spirit.
We cannot do anything for the blessing of God. The blessing of God is based exclusively on what God provides, and God has provided an encapsulated grace pipeline with the God's righteousness on the receiving end and God's justice of God on the source end for every believer.
This means that each ministry of the Holy Spirit at salvation in some way creates and maintains that encapsulated environment that is necessary for the breaking of satan's power over the world and the old sin nature's sovereignty over human life.
Regeneration is the only ministry of the Holy Spirit that occurs in every dispensation. Regeneration means to be born again, to be born a second time spiritually. It is the true concept of following Jesus, and the Lord Jesus Christ explained that to follow Him was not to say what He said or to try to adopt His mental attitude about things. Nor is the concept of discipleship as it is often used today to describe what is meant to follow Jesus.
Following Jesus is described in Matt 19:28; "And Jesus said unto them, Truly I say unto you that you who have followed me, in regeneration."
John chapter 3 explains regeneration. The target for the imputation of Adam's sin is the genetically formed old sin nature. The target for eternal life is the spiritually formed human spirit at second birth. The Holy Spirit actually provides a birth that is totally spiritual so he first ministry of the Holy Spirit is regeneration Titus 3:5-7;
The second ministry of God the Holy Spirit is the baptism of the Holy Spirit. The baptism of the Holy Spirit takes every believer who has received God's righteousness and eternal life, and enters us into union with Jesus Christ as He is seated at the right hand of the Father, and retroactively unites believers with Christ in His spiritual death, in His physical death, and in His burial that is followed by a new life of Christ living in them. Gal 2:20;
The third ministry of the Holy Spirit at salvation is the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit's indwelling and filling ministries are two different things. Filling is a command as described by the mandate to "walk by means of the Spirit" (Gal 5:16;) but God's Word never commands us to be indwelt by the Spirit.
The indwelling of the Holy Spirit ministry at the point of salvation has to do with the physical body of the believer. The physical body is genetically contaminated by the old sin nature so the indwelling of the Holy Spirit indwells it to counter the function of the old sin nature from where it resides in the physical body.
The indwelling of the Holy Spirit is never lost and cannot be lost. At salvation the Holy Sprit creates a temple inside the body of corruption as a base for His function that cannot be compromised by the sin nature.
While the indwelling of the Holy Spirit address the body, the filling ministry of the Holy Spirit always refers to the soul. A believer can lose the filling of the Spirit but a believer cannot lose the indwelling of the Spirit.
When you lose the filling of the Spirit you are functioning in one of two conditions: grieving the Spirit referenced in Eph 4:30; or quenching the Spirit referenced in 1Thes 5:19.
The fourth ministry of God the Holy Spirit at salvation is the sealing of the Holy Spirit referenced in Eph 1:13; Eph 4:30; and 2Cor1: 22. The sealing of the Holy Spirit guarantees that we are saved. We are sealed with a guarantee from God and we can never lose our salvation.
This indicates eternal security and the fact that every Church Age believer bears an insignia as a member of God's royal family forever. No one was ever sealed by the Spirit before the Church Age. There are certain other things that are sealed after the Church Age including the 144,000 Jewish evangelists during the tribulation.
But the seal of the church specifically deals with the fact that we are irrevocably members of God's royal family forever. The sealing also indicates the identification of ownership; God owns us as of the moment we believe in Jesus Christ.
This also emphasizes the positional sanctification that is the basis of our relationship with God forever. Sealing ratifies the fact that God has a plan for our life and that we are in the divine decree and that God has taken it upon Himself to give us logistical support so that we can fulfill His purpose for us while we are in the devil's world.
The sealing of the Spirit is also the promise of super-grace blessing for God's royal family as described in Eph 1:13.
Reversionism is incompatible with the sealing of the Spirit Eph 4:30. The sealing of the Spirit is the down payment or guarantee of security for God's royal family.
The fifth ministry of God the Holy Spirit at salvation is the distribution of spiritual gifts described in 1Cor 12:11. At the moment of salvation God the Holy Spirit sovereignly conveys at least one spiritual gift to every believer.
Many spiritual gifts are not mentioned in scripture. The only ones that are, are ones that relate to the function of the local church assembly along with a few extra ones to help us realize that these gifts really do exist.
The reason that the gifts related to the local church assembly are mentioned is so that the local church can be administrated in accord with God's directive will. The other spiritual gifts do not have to be mentioned because the only thing that is required for a spiritual gift to function is spiritual growth from doctrinal capacity
This is why believers do not need to be concerned with what their spiritual gift is because the only thing that matters is to grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ and the spiritual gift will automatically function under the ministry of God the Holy Spirit.
