In our verse-by-verse study of Romans we are in Roman 6:13; our Expanded Translation so far is "Stop standing ready to use the parts of your body as weapons for the sin nature..."
The dative singular indirect object from the noun " hamartia" (sin) plus the article "ho" (the) making it monadic referring to "the sin nature."
The believer puts himself under orders to the old sin nature by sinning then remains there on the basis of reversionism that intensifies sin into human good, and evil that functions under statan's policy of evil.
Then the accusative plural direct object from "hoplon" (tools, instruments, or weapons) that comes from the Greek word for soldier, "hoplite." Hoplon" was the weapon or tool of the "hoplite" (soldier) but it is plural so we will translate it "weapons."
This actually makes sense when we understand that we are engaged in the invisible spiritual war in an angelic conflict. By serving the sin nature we serve satan with our weapons and by serving God the Holy Spirit we serve Jesus Christ with our "weapons."
The weapon is the object of prohibition along with the descriptive genitive singular from "adikia" (unrighteousness) that refers to the use of the members of our body aka our weapons for the unrighteous production of sin, and human good evil in reversionism as weapons or tools of unrighteousness.
This includes not only sinfulness but also the functions of good and evil that are the trends of the old sin nature. The function starts with sin nature control of the soul and persists in reversionism when we do not use God's problem solving device of rebound.
Expanded Translation "And stop placing your members as weapons of unrighteousness under orders from the old sin nature."
The brain is physical so the brain is not a part of the soul, although there is a close relationship between the brain and the soul. The brain belongs to the body but the stream of consciousness belongs to the soul.
As part of the physical body the old sin nature resides in the brain but it does not reside in the stream of consciousness or in any part of the soul. The commands of this verse exist because of the relationship between the brain that is biological and the soul that is immaterial.
The soul's consciousness uses the physical brain but we must understand that they are separate similar to the way that we distinguish between the driver of a car and the steering wheel or engine of a car, so we must recognize the difference between the function of the soul and the brain.
The brain is a part of the body of corruption so the brain is a computer that is controlled by the old sin nature with its trends toward sin, and toward human good, and evil. Under spiritual death the brain rules the soul since the old sin nature is located in every part of the biological human body.
At regeneration the power of the old sin nature is broken through the real imputation of eternal life to the human spirit at spiritual birth and the judicial imputation of God's perfect righteousness to the believer.
These two imputations break the power of death that the devil through the old sin nature wields. Combined with the baptism of the Holy Spirit that for the first time places the human soul into a position to be free from the sin nature and its authority over biological human life.
But even after regeneration the brain continues to be programmed for good and evil as the policy of satan as the ruler of this world so without the filling ministry of God the Holy Spirit the old sin nature continues to function as the de facto sovereign of biological human life.
The intake of Bible doctrine under the ministry of God the Holy Spirit feeds new information into the brain that enables the stream of consciousness of the human soul to orient to the Lord Jesus Christ and the Spirit instead of satan and the sin nature.
Only Bible doctrine resident in the soul can experientially accomplish what has been accomplished positionally by the baptism of the Spirit. Only through Bible doctrine resident in the soul under the filling ministry of the spirit is the brain enabled to understand the spiritual information that frees the believer from continuing to produce sin, human good and evil.
To place ourselves under orders to God and the parts of our physical bodies including the brain as weapons of righteousness to God we must first enable the brain with Bible doctrine in the soul.
"but stand yourselves ready to the God" the adversative conjunction "alla" (but) sets up a contrast between the negative and the positive command, plus the aorist active imperative of "paristemi" (stand ready or present), the military term that we have seen that means to put yourself under authority. In this case it is referring to God the Father's authority.
The visible manifestation of God's authority is God's Word of truth. "Paristemi" (stand ready or present) also means that when you are under authority you must have self discipline that establishes the ability to respond persistently and consistently with positive volition toward what God's Word tells us.
Distraction is the enemy of self discipline. The aorist tense is a constantive aorist that views the action of the verb in its entirety. The action of the verb is to make a decision today, tomorrow, the next day, and every day that God gives you on this earth as a believer to function under His GASP system and advance spiritually.
The constantive aorist refers to action that takes place over a period of time from consistent daily decisions. The period of time is from the day of salvation until the day that the believer dies physically or the exit resurrection, whichever occurs first.
The active voice: the believer is commanded to produce the action of the verb. The imperative mood is the imperative of command. It is an order for the intake of doctrine on a daily basis from doctrine that is acquired on the basis of the believer's personal volition towards God's Word of truth.
The accusative plural direct object from the reflexive pronoun "heautous" (yourselves) follows. When the action expressed by the verb is referred back to the subject of the verb the construction is called reflexive.
It is translated by a reflexive pronoun "yourself", "but put yourself under orders." You have to choose to do it. The dative of indirect object of the proper noun for God, "Theos" (God), plus the generic use of the definite article "ho" (the) making it monadic to emphasize the uniqueness of God so we have "the God" referring specifically to God the Father.
The believer places him or herself under orders to the God by their attitude toward the teaching of God's Word of truth. Production is the result of spiritual growth through the function of God's GASP system.
But remember that production is never the means of either growth or blessing from God's justice because even legitimate production that is commanded in God's Word is predicated exclusively on capacity from spiritual growth.
"as those that are alive from the dead" the comparative particle "hosei" (as) sets up a comparative clause, and with it the present active participle of "zao" (alive or living) so It should be translated, "as those who are alive." The present tense is static a condition assumed exist perpetually.
We are alive because of current positional truth, and it is perpetual. The active voice: the believer through retroactive positional truth produces the action. The participle is circumstantial through the baptism of the Holy Spirit, retroactive and current positional truth. All of this is doctrinal reality.
Then "ek" (from) plus the ablative plural of "nekros" (dead or deaths). There is no definite article here and the absence of the definite article determines the meaning of this adjective. Minus the definite article it means "deaths," because the absence of the definite article makes it anarthrous so it calls attention to the qualitative aspects of Christ's death, referring to His two deaths on the cross.
With the article it is "dead ones." So the correct translation is "as those who are alive from deaths." Christ's deaths, because we are identified with Him in His deaths at the moment we are saved through the baptism of the Holy Spirit via positional truth.
We are alive from deaths because we are identified with Christ in His spiritual and physical deaths. The principle is that positional victory is the predicate for experiential victory. Positional victory provides the opportunity for the expression of positive volition that recognizes the reality of retroactive and current positional truth.
The ruling power of the old sin nature over biological human life has been broken positionally so that the believer is no longer the slave to its sovereign authority.
"and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God" the connective conjunction "kai" (and) plus the accusative plural direct object from the noun "melos" (members). The old sin nature is in every cell of the physical body.
Plus the possessive genitive plural from the personal pronoun "su" (of you). Plus the double accusative plural of "hoplon" ("weapons). Plus the descriptive genitive singular of "dikaiosune" (righteousness).
God's righteousness imputed is the only reason we have any blessing from God. Plus the dative indirect object from "Theos" with the article "ho" (the God).
Expanded Translation Rom 6:13; "And stop placing your members as weapons of unrighteousness (good and evil) under orders to the sin nature: but place yourselves under orders to God as those who are alive from deaths, and your members as weapons of righteousness to the God."
Verses 14 & 15 address the problem of distortion. Distorted thinking is an indication of erroneous thinking. These verses reflect the principle that history repeats itself because mankind constantly repeats his failures.
When there is divorcement from reality there is distortion in the thinking, and when there is distortion in thinking there is erroneous thinking and inability to recognize the historical trend that has been set up and reverse it.
Once the erroneous trend begins to gain momentum the only way the erroneous trend can be stopped is by personal intervention from the Lord Jesus Christ who controls history.
This is only thing that is going to save us right now at this moment in history because God's solution is the only solution.
