The book of Romans part 260, Rom 6:23;

In our verse by verse study of Romans last time we finished our Expanded Translation of Rom 6:22; "But now having been set free from the sin nature, and having become slaves to the God, you are having benefit with reference to sanctification, resulting in everlasting life."

We noted that this does not imply that everlasting life only belongs to the mature believer. It just means that everlasting life is going to be more rewarding, more beneficial and convey more blessing, to the mature believer because of their capacity from doctrine.

Everlasting life belongs to all believers in Jesus Christ. It is a real imputation at the point of salvation to every believer but the believers who are going to enjoy it the most are those who complete their advance to spiritual maturity during their human life in time.

Spiritual benefit and blessing from God's justice comes from being slaves to God the Father. This transfer of slavery from the old sin nature to God the Father occurs at the moment of salvation.

No longer does the sin nature provide rations and pay. Now God's justice provides rations and pay. Maximum blessing from God's justice occurs at maturity adjustment to God's justice from the daily function of GASP that results in maximum metabolized doctrine resident in the thinking.

The believer receives benefit from advancing to spiritual maturity. At the end of physical life on earth there follows eternal life and the parlaying of the blessings in time into the blessings of eternity. The plan has both temporal and eternal security as well as temporal and eternal blessing. Where God blesses there is always security because security is a part of every blessing from God.

This brings us to verse 23 that is the last verse in Romans chapter 6. The key to this verse is the phrase "eternal or everlasting life" at the end of verse 22.

Rom 6:23; "For the wages of sin is death" - the inferential use of the postpositive conjunctive particle "gar" (for).

When "gar" is used inferentially it should not be just translated as "for," but should be translated as "certainly." Plus the nominative plural subject "opsonion" (pay, wages) or salaries referring to the money paid to a soldier.

This is a subsistence allowance or ration. It is literally is used to refer to what is appointed for buying food so it describes a maintenance or sustenance allowance in the military.

We will translate it "subsistence pay." With this is the ablative of source singular from "hamartia" with the definite article "ho" (the). Again the definite article makes it monadic so it refers to what has already been defined and understood from the context. Plus the predicate nominative singular from "thanatos (death) that tells us that the results of the subsistence pay of the old sin nature.

The word "thanatos" (deaths) is used to describe the results of the subsistence pay is in the plural. The rations from the sin nature is deaths. The old sin nature issues rations every day for the subsistence necessary to keep the unbeliever alive and those rations result in the unbeliever's deaths. Spiritual death results in the second death.

Next the postpositive conjunctive particle "de" (but) that we have seen is used to connect two clauses that are generally antithetical, and the nominative singular subject of "charisma" (free gift or free benefit) plus the article "ho" (the). The root word is "charis" (grace) so it means proof of grace, gift or benefit "but the grace benefit."

Because "the grace" is absolutely unique as described by the definite article "ho" (the) it is monadic so it is telling us that "the grace" is a category that is different from any other category of grace so it must be separated from all other categories of grace. So it is translated "the gift or the free gift or the grace benefit."

Plus the ablative of source from "Theos" again with the definite article "ho" that tells us that "the God who is the source of the unique grace is also unique. His policy is unique; His person is unique, and therefore the definite article again refers to a specialized unique category.

The ablative of source indicates the fact that the origin is involved. Then the implied verb to be plus the predicate nominative from the adjective "aionos"(eternal or everlasting) and the noun "zoe" (life) "eternal or everlasting life." Eternal God's eternal life is conveyed to us as everlasting life.

Eternal life was made to participate in, not simply to be admired. Eternal life should be exploited. The exploitation of eternal life is not to just put your salvation on the shelf and then go out and do whatever you want, and say goodbye to Eternal God until eternity. There is only one way to grow up, and that is to learn the Eternal God's Word every day.

"through Jesus Christ our Lord" "en" (in) plus the locative of "Christos Issous Kurios" referring to positional truth: "in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Expanded Translation Rom 6:23; "Certainly the subsistence pay (rations) from the sin nature is death; but the grace benefit from the God is everlasting life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

We noted that the Greek word for rations or subsistence pay is in the plural, indicating that there is more than one type of death involved for the unbeliever: spiritual death in time and the second death in eternity. In time we have spiritual death as unbelievers; in eternity the unbeliever resides in the lake of fire forever so the old sin nature pays rations to its slaves forever.

There is a contrast between the plural "rations" and the word "grace benefit" that is in the singular. While the old sin nature simply pays a subsistence allowance to its slave, God in grace conveys benefits on the basis of grace.

Rations imply receiving something that is earned or deserved; grace benefit refers to something that is that is not earned or deserved.

The lake of fire is earned and deserved but heaven cannot be earned or deserved. The lake of fire comes from the work of man; heaven comes exclusively from the work of God.

The believer's possession of a double portion of eternal life is emphasized. The first portion: the real imputation of God's the Father's eternal life to its divinely prepared target at regeneration John 3:18, 36.

The second portion is the possession of eternal life belonging to Jesus Christ through the baptism of the Spirit and subsequent current positional truth 1John 5:11,12; Rom 6:23;

This finishes our expanded translation of Romans chapter 6 that goes as follows:

Expanded Translation Rom 6:1; "Therefore what are we to conclude? Are we to continue in the sovereignty of the sin nature in order that the grace of God might increase?"

Expanded Translation: Rom 6:2; " NOT We who have died to the sin nature, how shall we still live in it?"

Expanded Translation Rom 6:3; "Or are you ignorant that all of us who have been baptized into Jesus Christ, into his spiritual death were baptized?"

Expanded Translation Rom 6:4; "Therefore, we have been buried together with him (Christ) through baptism of the Spirit into his death (physical) in order that as Christ has been raised up from deaths (spiritual & physical) to the glory of God the Father, so also we might (potential) walk in newness of life."

Expanded Translation Rom 6:5; "For if we have become intimately united to the likeness of his death (and we have through retroactive positional truth), not only this, but also we shall be intimately united to the likeness of his resurrection (on the basis of current positional truth)."

Expanded Translation Rom 6:6; Be knowing this, that our old self (the OSN) has been co-crucified together with him, in order that the human body with reference to its sin nature might be rendered powerless (inoperative), so that we should no longer be slaves to the old sin nature.

Expanded Translation Rom 6:7; "For he who has died (baptism of the Spirit and resultant retroactive positional truth) has been acquitted (positional deliverance) from the power of the sin nature."

Expanded Translation Rom 6:8; "Now if we have died with Christ (and we have), we also believe that we shall live in association with him."

Expanded Translation Rom 6:9; "Knowing that because Christ has been raised from the deaths he can never die; physical death is no longer master or lord over Him."

Expanded Translation Rom 6:10; "For the death [spiritual] that he [Christ] has died, he died once for all with reference to the sin nature: but the resurrection life which he lives, he lives with reference to the God."

Expanded Translation Rom 6:11; "So also on the one hand all of you yourselves conclude yourselves to be dead with reference to the sin nature, but on the other hand alive with reference to the God in Christ Jesus."

Expanded Translation Rom 6:12; "Therefore, stop permitting the sin nature to rule in your mortal body, that you should obey the same (the old sin nature) with its trends."

Expanded Translation: Rom 6:13;"Stop placing your members under orders to the sin nature as weapons of unrighteousness." The present tense is a progressive present tense that refers to a continuous action that must be stopped.

Expanded Translation Rom 6:14; "For the sin nature will not lord it over you: for you are not under law, but under grace."

Expanded Translation Rom 6:15; "What then are we to conclude? Shall we sin because we are not under law, but under grace? Definitely not."

Expanded Translation Rom 6:16; "Do you not know, that to whom you put yourselves under orders as slaves for the purpose of obedience, you are slaves to the one to whom you habitually render obedience; either to the sin nature resulting in death, or obedience (to God) resulting in experiential righteousness."

Expanded Translation Rom 6:17; "Now thanks to the God that you were (kept on being) slaves to the sin nature, but (this is what is new) now you have obeyed by means of the right lobe of the soul a doctrinal system (pattern of teaching) into which (he doctrinal system) you were committed."

Expanded Translation Rom 6:18; "And by having been set free (both positionally and experientially) from the sin nature, you became enslaved to God's righteousness."

Expanded Translation Rom 6:19; "I use a human illustration because of the weakness of your flesh [the old sin nature]; for just as you have put your members under orders as slaves to impurity [the old sin nature's trend toward sin] and to the lawlessness [the old sin nature's trend toward good] resulting in the lawlessness (the old sin nature's trend toward evil) so now put your members under orders as slaves to the righteousness of God, resulting in experiential sanctification."

Expanded Translation Rom 6:20; "For as long as you were the slaves of the sin nature you were excluded from the righteousness (of God)."

Expanded Translation Rom 6:21; "Therefore, what benefit were you having at that time from old sin nature trends over which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things (the OSN trends) is death."

Expanded Translation Rom 6:22; "But now having been set free from the sin nature, and having become slaves to the God, you are having benefit with reference to sanctification, resulting in eternal life."

Expanded Translation Rom 6:23; "Certainly the subsistence pay (rations) from the sin nature is death; but the grace benefit from the God is everlasting life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
