In our verse by verse study of Romans we are in Rom 7:4; at the phrase "that you should be married or joined to another" the preposition "eis" (so that) plus the infinitive that introduces a result clause, and with it is an infinitive that comes from the Classical Greek.
We must understand that there is a distinction between the Koine Greek of the New Testament and the Koine Greek that is used in extra-biblical manuscripts of the time. Much of the New Testament Koine Greek is really Attic Greek that is pure Classical Greek. The infinitive that is used here is a Classical Greek idiom.
We have an actual result here. Plus the accusative plural of general reference from the personal pronoun "hymos" (you) that is used as the subject. The pronoun refers to all believers. Then the aorist active infinitive from the verb "ginomai" (to become).
The aorist tense is a constantive aorist for an instantaneous action at salvation. The instantaneous action occurs the moment we believe in Jesus Christ and God the Holy Spirit enters us into union with Christ that retroactively corresponds to the divorce from the first husband who represents the old sin nature and simultaneously positionally enters us into union with Christ who is seated at the right hand of the Father.
This is the second marriage where the Lord Jesus Christ becomes the groom and the Church becomes first of all the body of Christ, and then prior to the Second Advent the bride of Christ for the official marriage celebration.
The active voice: the believer produces the action of the verb at salvation through current positional truth. The infinitive is an infinitive of actual result. What this is saying in effect is that when you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ it is also equivalent to a marriage ceremony where the bride says, "I do."
"eis (into) ho (the) ginomai (become) hymas (you)" with the result that you might become joined or married) "heteros" (to another kind or a different kind) referring to the Lord Jesus Christ who is totally different from the old sin natur
Identification with Christ in His resurrection, ascension and session is current positional truth that in the analogy that corresponds to the wife as the believer's second marriage to the Lord Jesus Christ.
Often the dative of indirect object indicates the one in whose interest the baptism of the Spirit occurs, and it is to our advantage to have a relationship that no believer has ever previously has ever had.
We are royal family of God as a result. So through the baptism of the Holy Spirit the Lord Jesus Christ has a royal family for His battlefield royalty in the angelic conflict.
"to him who is raised from deaths" this emphasizes current positional truth that starts with the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. The aorist active participle from the verb "egeiro" (raised) refers to the literal, bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The definite article "ho" (the) is used as a relative pronoun. The culminative aorist tense views the resurrection of Jesus Christ in its entirety from the perspective of the existing results of ascension, session, glorification, and battlefield royalty.
The passive voice: Jesus Christ received the action of the verb through two agencies. The resurrection of Christ was accomplished by God the Father Col 2:12; 1 Pet 1:21.
God the Holy Spirit was also involved Acts 2:24; Rom 1:4; Rom 8:11; 1Pet 3:18. God the Father and God the Holy Spirit are both mentioned as agents of Jesus' resurrection that is used in this analogy of Jesus Christ being the second husband with God the Holy Spirit as the marriage counselor.
Rom 7:4; The circumstantial participle means " to him who has been raised." Next is "ek" (from) plus the ablative plural from the adjective "nekros" (deaths) so we have "from deaths."
This time there is no definite article with the noun so the preposition phrase is anartharous. Anartharous construction emphasizes the quality aspects of the noun "nekros" (deaths" or "from deaths) referring to Jesus' resurrection from deaths in the plural so the correct translation: "to him who has been raised from deaths" referring to both spiritual and physical death) because Jesus Christ died twice on the cross.
"that we might bear fruit for God" a purpose clause starting with the conjunction "hina" (that) introduces a final clause of the verse to describe the aim, purpose or objective of all of this.
The objective is that we are married to another to produce. The human race is perpetuated by a relationship between a man and a woman, and this procreation is often referred to as fruit or production.
So in the old marriage we had children, so now in the new marriage we also have children. The children of the first marriage are sin, good, and evil. Now that we are married to Jesus Christ, the believer corresponds to the wife, the Holy Spirit is the marriage counselor so different children are to be produced.
Maturity adjustment to God's justice glorifies the Lord Jesus Christ. But it is also possible for the believer to go back to the old sin nature and produce sin, good, and evil.
That doesn't mean the believer is no longer a believer, it simply means that the believer is unfaithful to the second husband. Plus the aorist active subjunctive from the compound verb karpophoreho (karo = fruit; phoreho = to bear) "in order that we might bear fruit."
Bearing fruit here is the children of the marriage in the analogy. The aorist tense is a culminative aorist that views the advance to spiritual maturity in its entirety but it emphasizes the viewpoint of existing results.
The active voice: the believer produces the action of the verb through the daily function of GASP. The teaching of Bible doctrine is the Lord Jesus Christ making love to the believer. The believer can accept or reject Jesus' love.
The believer must believe the Bible doctrine for it to become epignosis or spirit taught doctrine in the stream of consciousness for it to be available to develop into spiritual advance.
This is a potential subjunctive mood that infers a future situation that is qualified by the element of contingency. The contingency is based upon individual believer's attitude toward Bible doctrine.
Plus the dative of indirect object from " the Theos" the God) that emphasizes the one in whose interest maturity adjustment to God's justice is attained. The definite article makes it monadic so it refers to God the Father.
Expanded Translation Rom 7:4; "Therefore, my brethren, you also were made to die with reference to the law by the human body of the Christ; with the result that you might be joined or married to another, to the one who has been raised up from deaths [spiritual and physical], in order that we might bear fruit to the God."
The product of our union with Christ in His resurrection is maturity adjustment to God's justice that glorifies the Lord Jesus Christ and God the Father.
This can only be accomplished through the daily function of GASP that occurs with the daily perception of Bible doctrine that is communicated by one's right pastor under the ministry of God the Holy Spirit.
The resultant epignosis or spirit taught Bible doctrine that becomes resident in the soul is the seed planted for the harvest of glorification of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Bible doctrine resident in the soul is how the believer glorifies and honors the Lord Jesus Christ. Bible Doctrine resident in the soul is the seed that produces the harvest of glory to God the Father that at the same time produces direct blessings from God's justice to the mature believer that are the best and therefore the ultimate blessings in life.
Note that this verse references the Mosaic Law that while perfect in its proper function is not the marriage counselor for the second marriage. God the Holy Spirit is presented as the marriage counselor for the second marriage in the middle of verse 6.
This means that death or divorce from the first husband through retroactive positional truth also includes death or divorce to the Mosaic Law as the marriage counselor of the first marriage. Rom 10:4;
The baptism of the Holy Spirit at salvation provides the analogy of divorce from the first husband and marriage to the second husband, the Lord Jesus Christ. This explains the phrase "by the body of the Christ."
This verse implies that divorce is death to the former mate in marriage.
Therefore to die with reference to the law means that the Mosaic Law, the marriage counselor for the first marriage, is no longer functional or operational because we have a better marriage counselor.
In other words, the Mosaic Law has fulfilled its function in providing information for the divorce from the first husband. The 10 commandments in the Mosaic Law explain the problem of spiritual death in the first marriage.
The first marriage occurred at physical birth with the imputation of the human soul and Adam's original sin to biological life when the first breath of air was inhaled. Retroactive positional truth is divorce from the first husband at salvation, while current positional truth is marriage to the second husband at salvation.
The purpose is stated at the end of the verse: "in order that we might bear fruit to the God." No one bears fruit to God in the status of spiritual death. A person must be spiritually alive to God or born again before any production to God can occur.
This is only accomplished by being born again followed by persistent positive volition to God's Word under the ministry of God the Holy Spirit that results in the development of maximum doctrine resident in the soul from metabolized doctrine that results in maturity adjustment to God's justice.
