The book of Romans part 275, Rom 7:9-10;

In our verse by verse study of Romans we are in Rom 7:9; at the phrase in the NASB "the sin became alive, and I died" the nominative singular subject from "hamartia" (sin) refers to the sin nature or the principle of sin, plus the definite article "ho" (the) making it monadic referring to the old sin nature as a unique category of sin (the sin nature).

Then the aorist active indicative of "anazao" (lived again) means to take on fresh life or fresh energy, reinvigorated or reenergized "the sin nature became reinvigorated."

The aorist tense is a constantive aorist that views the action of the verb in its entirety, including cognizance of the 10th commandment, awareness of the lust pattern, cognizance of the origin of lust, the old sin nature, and therefore awareness of the bad marriage that became more of a problem now than even before he understood it.

The active voice: the first husband, the old sin nature produces the action of the verb of being reinvigorated or reenergized. The indicative mood is declarative presenting the verbal idea from the viewpoint of reality. Once he become aware of the problem of the first husband the problem actually got worse.

This is why new believers or untaught believers have such a problem with personal sin. They understand that they have a problem but unless they have been taught the solution of the filling ministry of the spirit the problem gets worse than it was before they became a believer.

New believers must immediately be taught how to keep on being filled with the spirit through the acknowledgment of known sin go God.

"and I died" the connective use of the postpositive conjunctive particle "de" (and) with nominative singular personal pronoun "ego" (I) referring to Paul, the human author, who states the experience of every person in the human race.

As he writes he is acting as a representative of the entire human race. Plus the aorist active indicative of "apothnesko" (died).

The culminative aorist views the event in its entirety cognizance of the 10th commandment but regards it from the viewpoint of the results of awareness of spiritual death and condemnation from the imputation of Adam's original sin at physical birth.

"I died" is Paul saying, "I realized I was dead." Actually he had been spiritually dead for the entire time but now he is aware of it. The active voice: Paul, the human writer, uses himself to represent the spiritually dead human race that is born spiritually dead at physical birth.

The indicative mood is declarative representing the verbal idea from the viewpoint of reality. Paul became aware of the actual situation. The Mosaic Law had fulfilled its role as the marriage counselor making Paul aware of the state of his spiritual death under the old sin nature.

Expanded Translation Rom 7:9; "At one time I lived apart from the law: but when the tenth commandment came, the sin nature was reenergized and reinvigorated, and I really recognized I was spiritually dead."

All human beings pass through a state of innocence based on ignorance up to the point of God consciousness. This passage teaches that innocence is a state of ignorance from not understanding something, while guilt regarding spiritual death comes from a state of cognizance after understanding has been developed from doctrinal information.

In the Garden of Eden man in was perfect and he was cognizant but he was not ignorant so he was not innocent because innocents implies ignorance. Mankind in the Garden before the fall was not ignorant of God, of what God had provided, of the prohibition God had made and of the contract he had from God for a one a day at a time spiritual life.

As long as he did not eat the fruit of the forbidden tree he was good to go. He was not innocent but he was perfect.

After the fall mankind outside the garden under the lordship of the old sin nature from birth may be innocent because he is not aware of the fact of real imputation of Adam's original sin, but he is also not perfect because of genetically formed sin nature and the imputation of Adam's original sin at physical birth.

However, cognizance of the 10th commandment leads to awareness of the old sin nature as the source of lust. Awareness of the sin nature activates and invigorates the old sin nature in its projection of lust from the biological body into the volition of the soul.

This activation and invigoration causes mankind to more clearly recognize that he has a problem that is the fact of a bad marriage to the old sin nature under the status quo of spiritual death from physical birth.

Therefore the Mosaic Law acts as a marriage counselor that informs mankind of the bad marriage and the solution to it by salvation adjustment to God's justice by believing in Jesus Christ.

The covetousness, inordinate desire or lust that is prohibited by the 10th commandment, explains how the old sin nature is a major source of temptation and the volitional choice to act on the temptation of the OSN that results in the commission of personal sin, human good, and evil.

By understanding where lust comes from one begins to understand the existence of the OSN and cognizance of mankind's status in spiritual death.

We see in this passage that a problem has to be recognized and understood before we will look for a solution because awareness of the problem causes us to recognize that we need for a solution to our problem.

The Mosaic Law as the marriage counselor made Paul aware of the problem so that he could accept the solution that is salvation through faith in Jesus Christ.

Like all of us Paul was spiritually dead from birth. That is the problem. The imputation of human life to the soul was accompanied by the imputation of Adam's original sin to the genetically formed old sin nature that resides in the physical body at physical birth.

Until the problem is properly understood there can be no solution. Paul did not become spiritually dead when he understood the 10th commandment because he was already spiritually dead; he became aware of spiritual death that had existed from the moment of his physical birth.

This emphasizes the Mosaic Law as the marriage counselor of the first marriage that creates cognizance of the problem and points to the solution.

There's nothing wrong with the marriage counselor because the law is perfect but everything is wrong with the first husband, the old sin nature, and the spiritual death the marriage to the OSN produces in mankind at physical birth.

Cognizance of the 10th commandment caused Paul to become aware of the fact that spiritual death originated from within his body rather than through some overt volitional act of personal sin or human good or evil that he did after he was born.

It is only Adam's original sin that is imputed to our genetically formed old sin nature at birth that condemns us and that occurs before we have done or can do anything.

This means that the old sin nature is the real culprit. The Mosaic Law replaced Paul's ignorance with cognizance regarding the first husband and resultant spiritual death. Therefore, awareness of the problem precedes awareness of the correct solution that is explained in the ritual plan of the Mosaic Law.

Rom 7:10; "And the commandment, which was to result in life." The connective "kai" (and) with the nominative singular of the subject "entole" (commandment) with the definite article "ho" (the) that used as a demonstrative pronoun and makes it monadic and placing special emphasis on the ritual plan of the Mosaic Law.

"And the commandment" specifically the 10th commandment reveals the condemnation. It tells us about human life being imputed to the soul and about Adam's original sin being imputed to the old sin nature at birth.

The commandment takes the production of the old sin nature with its trends toward sin, toward human good, and toward evil. It sets up prohibitions against these things because sin, human good and evil are not only against God but they also create tyranny that is destructive to the freedom that is required for the preaching of the Gospel.

So the sins that are mentioned in the Ten Commandments are certainly sins but they are mentioned specifically because they are the sins that destroy freedom and therefore the opportunity for evangelism.

Next is the nominative singular feminine from the relative pronoun "ho" (which). In the English there is an insertion at this point because the elliptical style of this verse demands a verb that describes communication or disclosure, and so we translate "And that commandment which points or which was"

Plus the prepositional phrase describing the object that is being pointed at; "eis" (into) plus the accusative of "zoe" (life or eternal life. This is a reference to the Levitical offerings of the Mosaic Law that portray Jesus Christ bearing our sins on the cross from the judicial imputation from God.

All of our personal sins were collected and imputed to Jesus Christ and judged by God the Father on the cross. Or the holy days: "Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us." or the tabernacle with its various articles of furniture and the rituals performed by the Levitical priesthood.

All of these things teach various aspects of Jesus Christ's work of redemption, reconciliation, propitiation, imputation, and justification on the cross

"to result in death for me" - the aorist passive indicative of "hurisko" (to discover, to recognize, to find). It is used for an intellectual discovery based on reflection, observation, examination or investigation.

We will translate it as "the same was discovered." The aorist tense is a constantive aorist for an action extended over a period of time. The action is the study of the Mosaic Law that is gathered up into one entirety.

The 10 commandments identify the problem; everything in the ritual plan of the Mosaic Law addresses the solution. It was studied over a period of time until it was understood. The passive voice: the subject receives the action of the verb.

The apostle Paul received the action of the verb through diligent study of the rituals. The indicative mood is declarative representing the verbal action from the viewpoint of reality.

Plus the word "moi" (in me) that is the instrumental of agency from the personal pronoun "ego."

Again, we have to insert a verb in the English because we have "eis" (into) a preposition of pointing plus the accusative singular of "thanatos" (death) referring to spiritual death from the sin nature plus "houtos" (this).

Expanded Translation Rom 7:10; "And that commandment that points to life (eternal) life, points to death for me."
