The book of Romans part 284, Rom 7:18;

https://youtu.be/593Mrd0jZT8

In our verse-by-verse study of Romans we are working on the last phrase of Rom 7:17; "but the sin that resides in me."

We noted that this is not referring to personal sins; it is referring specifically to the old sin nature. The adversative conjunction "allla" (but) sets up the contrast between the previous clause and this one.

Then the culprit of the first marriage, the nominative singular subject of "hamartia" (sin) with the generic use of the definite article "ho" (the) making it monadic so it exclusively describes the old sin nature, the ex-husband.

Plus the present active participle of "enoikeo" (en = in; oikeo = dwell), that means to inhabit, indwell or reside. It can also be translated "living." It means to dwell in, reside in or to live in "but the sin nature that keeps on residing in me."

The present tense is retroactive progressive present that describes what began in the past, at physical birth, and continues into the present time as long as you are alive physically. The OSN continues to live inside of each one of us after we are saved.

The active voice: the OSN produces the action of the verb after salvation. The participle is circumstantial. With this is the prepositional phrase "en" (in) plus the locative plural of the personal pronoun "ego" (me).

Expanded Translation Rom 7:17; "But as the case really stands, I am no longer performing the same [sin, good, evil], but the sin nature which keeps on indwelling me."

This is why the believer does and must also have the presence of God the Holy Spirit, the marriage counselor, and the Lord Jesus Christ for the purpose of fellowship indwelling, residing, or living in their physical body after salvation.

Our marriage is union with Christ through the baptism of the Spirit. The indwelling of Christ is only functional for the believer who is filled with the spirit from their positive volition to keep on being filled with the spirit so they can stop quenching and grieving the Holy Spirit so they can recall and apply the thinking of Christ that they have learned.

We see from this that the inner conflict of the believer and the pressure on the volition of God's royal family becomes clear. We have the pressure of inner conflict, the pressure of desiring to please the Lord, but we are not pleasing Him because we know what we are doing is not pleasing to Him.

Inside of every believer is the old sin nature that propagandizes, solicits and seduces, and incites the believer toward sin, human good, and evil.

At the same time ever since the believer was saved the Lord Jesus Christ, the second husband along with God the Holy Spirit, the marriage counselor of the second marriage is also residing in the believer because both Jesus Christ, the second husband, and God the Holy Spirit, the new marriage counselor, indwell the body of the believer.

For the believer to understand this Bible doctrine must also be resident and circulating in the believer's stream of consciousness from the communication of God's Word by the teaching ministry of God the Holy Spirit through the human spirit into the believer's soul.

God's word is built up in the believer's soul through the human spirit as believer advances to spiritual maturity from their PMA of the thinking of Christ that is God's Word of Truth under the teaching ministry of God the Holy Spirit.

The attack of the OSN, the former husband, emphasizes the source of the conflict and the cause of the seduction, deception, and incitement of human volition through propaganda, lies and deceit and lusts of the OSN.

Rom 7:18; "For I know that no good lives in me" begins with the postpositive conjunctive particle "gar" (for) used in the inferential connotation that can be translated as "for" or "in fact," or "certainly." Plus the perfect active indicative of the verb "oida" (to know) used to describe some form of cognizance.

Next is the negative adverb "ou" (not) and the other is the verb "oikeo" (to inhabit, to live, to dwell, to have one's habitation or to dwell in something or to reside).

It is translated, "In fact I know that not reside." The present tense is a historical present viewing a past event with the clarity of a present occurrence. The active voice tells us that there is no intrinsically good thing indwelling the body.

The indicative mood is declarative for a dogmatic statement of Bible doctrine. For the definition of the prepositional phrase we have these words in between: "In fact I know that not reside...

With it the preposition "en" (in) plus the locative singular of the personal pronoun "ego"(I or me), translated "in me." "In fact I know that not reside in me."

This problem has to be understood from two perspectives. Externally this problem has to be understood in the context of the angelic conflict, it also has to be understood as an internal problem. Paul is telling us that he understands the problem because he has it himself, and by doing that he indicates that he has objectivity.

Objectivity chooses to understand the problem with the purpose of finding a solution. So we are aware of the problem of the inner conflict between the OSN, the ex-husband, and God the Holy Spirit, the marriage counselor of the second marriage.

This explains that cognizance of the problem must precede awareness of the solution, and its proper application in solving the problem. The correct translation: "In fact I know that there does not reside in me."

After the word "ou" (not) comes an open parenthesis that forms a prepositional phrase, "that is, in my flesh" - the nominative neuter singular from the demonstrative pronoun "houtos" (that) with it is the present active indicative of "eimi" (is), "that is."

Then "en" (in) plus the locative of "sarx" (flesh) with the definite article "ho" (the) with the possessive genitive of "ego" (my), "in the flesh me" that we translate "in my flesh" a reference to the human body that is the residence of the old sin nature, and the place where the OSN has its roost.

Satan rules from outside of each one of us as the ruler of this world that he invents, manages, and controls and the OSN rules us in accord with satan's policies from the inside.

We see from this that in the status of total depravity at physical birth the problem is spiritual death. Total depravity is the imputation of Adam's original sin to the OSN at physical birth, and a part of total depravity is spiritual death.

Spiritual death means more than no salvation relationship with God it also means complete and total ignorance of God, God's plan and God's policy. This means that no unbeliever has a clue about God but satan deceives unbelievers through the OSN into thinking that they do.

The problem is hopeless for the human body so the only area remaining for a solution is the human soul. The solution always deals with the fact that God's Word of Truth must become resident in the soul. Spiritual growth and glorification of Christ cannot occur in the physical body, it can only occur in the soul. The physical body must die.

It is the soul, not the physical body that is saved at the moment of eternal salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. At the exit resurrection the believer receives a completely new body that replaces the corrupt biological body.

This means that the solution to the problems related to the believer's experiential life during the believer's life after salvation only relate to the soul. The only solution is God's Word of Truth that becomes resident and circulating in the believer's soul's stream of consciousness from the filling of God the Holy Spirit and the daily function of GASP.

This means that spiritual growth and glorification of the Lord Jesus Christ cannot and does not occur in the body; it only happens in the soul.

God's energy of the filling of the Spirit must replace human energy that comes from the physical body since the solution is located in the soul and not the body. Human energy and the function of human energy cannot and does not glorify Jesus Christ because God is never glorified by human energy.

That is why the spiritual food of Bible doctrine must be more important than the physical food that sustains the biological body. Spiritual food sustains the soul so it must have highest priority but this does not mean that we neglect physical food because asceticism is from the OSN. Matt 4:4;

The human body is the place where physical food is converted into human energy but the soul is the place where doctrine must reside and the Spirit must fill/control for the advance to spiritual maturity, and the glorification of Jesus Christ.

What human energy is to the body the spiritual energy of the filling of the Spirit and Bible Doctrine is to the soul. Physical food provides nourishment and sustenance for the body but Bible doctrine provides nourishment and sustenance for the soul.

God's solution that is the only solution depends upon the filling of the Spirit so that God the Holy Spirit controls the battleground of the soul where Bible doctrine resides.

All spiritual objectives are accomplished through experiential sanctification. Experiential sanctification begins with the filling of the Spirit and the daily function under GASP that if persisted in results in experiential sanctification from maturity adjustment to God's justice from Spirit taught doctrine (epignosis).

The spiritual advance to maturity and the glorification of the Lord Jesus Christ in super-grace can only be accomplished under the teaching ministry of the God the Holy Spirit who converts gnosis doctrine into epignosis doctrine in the believer's soul.

"good" the accusative singular of " agathos" (intrinsic good) with the negative "ou" (no) is the object of the verb. The word "agathos" (intrinsic good) closes the parentheses so the prepositional phrase is " not (resides in me that is in my flesh intrinsic good)"

"for the willing is present in me" the explanatory conjunctive particle "gar" (for) followed by the articular present active infinitive of the verb "thelo" (to will, to want, to wish, or to desire).

It also means to resolve and it describes the relationship between the soul's volition as it relates to one's purpose in life. The definite article "ho" (the) makes the case for converting the participle into a substantive that functions like a noun.

Since the definite article is in the nominative neuter singular that establishes the case for the infinitive participle when it is converted into a substantive.

The definite article tells us that when the infinitive is converted into a noun it is going to be a special stronger case of the noun so it is better to translate it as " resolved or determined" instead of " will or desire" because that is a stronger translation of the word "thelo."

Next is the present middle indicative of the verb "parakeimai" (present). This tells us that there is the resolve, the will, the desire, the determination to please God by trying to obey God's directive will.

This is the present tense of repeated action, known as the tendential present that we have seen before that describes something that recurs at successive intervals. The indirect middle emphasizes the agent (the believer) as producing the action of the verb rather than participating in the results of the action.

The agent is the believer who has inner conflict. The indicative mood is declarative representing the verbal action from the viewpoint of reality. Plus the locative of sphere from the personal pronoun "ego (me) so we have "for the resolve is present in me."

Our expanded translation so far is "In fact I know that there does not (reside in me (that is, in my human body) intrinsic good) for the resolve is present in me."

We see from this that the desire to please God, the desire to solve the problem, comes from human volition that has authority over the soul but human volition cannot solve any problems or make the right decision without logistical support.

From the very beginning man's volition has been involved because it all started when Adam took the fruit from out of the hand of the woman. In the garden Adam and the woman made decisions every day to stay away from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

Then one day they both made a decision to eat of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil so the first sin in the human race was an act of negative volition.

Salvation is a non-meritorious act of volition because all of the merit for salvation is in Jesus Christ, the object, not in the believer who is the subject. After salvation the volition of the believer must make daily decisions in the direction of God's logistical grace provision.

When sin occurs there must be a volitional decision to choose to confess it to God but in order to confess it the believer must know and understand that they must confess it to God. 1John 1:9;

To reach the objective of the Christian way of life daily volitional decisions must be made for the perception of doctrine and for confession of sins aka rebound when necessary.

Paul is describing the believer who is determined to make good decisions but the believer is frustrated by ignorance of doctrinal information. Without doctrinal facts and information the volition is frustrated and prevented from fulfilling God's policy because of a lack of the information that is necessary to execute God's directive will as stated in the divine decrees that are reveled exclusively in God's Word of Truth.

This means that no matter how resolved we are our volition is useless without direction, without information, without proper understanding of God's Word of Truth.

The resolve is present in the believer but the execution of the resolve demands accurate doctrine. No matter how much you want to please God you can not please God until you have accurate information that explains how to please Him.
