The book of Romans part 304; The sin nature

In our study of Romans we are between chapters 7 and 8 where we are doing some topical studies on the factors Paul is discussing regarding Man's situation in spiritual death and how God reestablished a relationship with man without compromising His perfect righteousness.

When we stopped last time we noted that all personal sins in human history can be divided into two categories of pre-salvation and post-salvation sinning. God judged all personal sins in both categories in Jesus' body on the cross.

Prior to the creation of the world God's omniscience gathered all personal sins, past, present, and future that mankind would commit, and gathered them all together in the divine decree and during the 3 hours of darkness during Jesus' crucifixion, God the Father took all of those personal sins and imputed them and judged them all on Jesus Christ.

Many passages of scripture describe this event.

Rev 13:8; "... the Lamb who was slaughtered from the foundation of the world."

1Pet 2:24, "He carried our sins in His own body on the cross."
2Cor 5:21, "He who did not know sin was made sin as a substitute for us."

Rom 5:8, "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died as a substitute for us."

1Pet 3:18, "Because Christ died once for our sins, the righteous One as a substitute for the unrighteous ones, that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh (humanity of Christ), but made alive by means of the Spirit."

Gal 3:13, "Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the Law by having become a curse as a substitute for us, for it stands written, `Cursed is everyone who hangs on a cross.'"

God's solution for the personal sins of the unbeliever is for the unbeliever to become saved by believing in Jesus Christ.

Gal 3:26; "For you are all the sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus."

Gal 2:16; "Knowing that a person is not justified by the works of the law, but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus that we might be justified by faith in Christ, and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no person will be justified."

Rom 5:1; "Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ."

Eph 2:8, "For by grace you have been saved in the past with the result that you stand saved forever through faith, and this (salvation) is not from yourselves; it is a gift from God, not of works lest anyone should boast."

Rom 3:22, "Even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ, for all those who believe."

Rom 3:28, "For we maintain that a person is justified by faith apart from the works of the law."

John 20:31, "But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing, you may have eternal life through His person."

John 3:15, "That everyone who believes in Him may have eternal life."

John 3:16, "For God loved the world so much that He gave His Son, the unique One, in order that anyone who believes in Him shall never perish but have eternal life."

John 3:18, "He who believes in Him is not judged, but he who does not believe has been judged already because he has not believed in the person of the unique Son of God."

John 3:36, "He who believes in the Son has eternal life, but he who does not believe in the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him."

John 11:25, "Jesus said to her (Martha), `I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me shall live even if he dies.'"

1John 5:11-13, "This is the deposition: God has given to us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has this (eternal) life; He who does not have the Son does not have this (eternal) life. These things I have written to you who believe in the person of the Son of God, in order that you may know that you have (eternal) life."

The problem of pre-salvation sinning is solved by personal faith in Jesus Christ because at the very moment that anyone believes in Jesus Christ, all his pre-salvation sins are blotted out.

Isa 43:25, "I, even I, am the One who wipes out your transgressions for My own sake, and I will not remember your sins.

Col 1:14, "In whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins."

This is why faith plus anything does not secure salvation. If you add anything to faith, the Holy Spirit cannot make it effective for salvation under His ministry of efficacious grace and maintain God's perfection.

Faith plus "commitment" does not secure salvation.
Faith plus "lordship" does not secure salvation. Jesus Christ is your Lord at the moment of salvation no matter what you do after salvation. You cannot make Christ "Lord" by anything you do.

Faith plus morality does not secure salvation.
Faith plus water baptism or any other church ritual does not secure salvation.

Faith plus "repentance" does not secure salvation. "Repent" actually means to change your mind about Jesus Christ repent does not mean to feel sorry for sins.

Faith plus emotion does not secure salvation.

Faith plus psychological works does not secure salvation.
Reverse invitations also exclude faith because in salvation, God invites us to Him.

Also we cannot reverse that and invite Christ into our hearts or lives. Inviting God excludes faith altogether. Inviting Christ into your heart is the equivalent of inviting Christ into a garbage dump because Jer 17:9; tells us that when under the sin nature's control "the heart is desperately wicked."

Inviting Christ into your life is equivalent to inviting Christ into life in a spiritual tomb, because the unbeliever's life is spiritually dead.

Salvation functions under the ministry of God the Holy Spirit. In the doctrine of common grace, the spiritually dead unbeliever has spiritual brain death.

That means that when the Gospel is presented, the Holy Spirit acts as a human spirit so that the Gospel information that is spiritual phenomena, that the unbeliever cannot understand without help from God can be properly understood.

When accurate Gospel information is provided the Holy Spirit helps the unbeliever to properly understand it in the heart or left lobe of their soul.

Even when the person understands that salvation is through faith alone in Jesus Christ and believes in Jesus Christ, he is still spiritually dead until God the Holy Spirit through His ministry of efficacious grace takes that faith and faith alone in Jesus Christ and makes it effective for eternal life.

If anything is added to faith and faith alone it does not work because God the Holy Spirit cannot take faith that is corrupted by any kind of human activity or works and make it effective for salvation.

John 16:8-9, "And He (Holy Spirit), when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin; concerning sin, because they do not believe in Me." Sin is really not an issue in your life as an unbeliever; the issue is Jesus Christ because on the cross Jesus Christ was judged for everyone's personal sins.

Rom 1:16, "I am not ashamed of the Gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Gentile."

So the solution for pre-salvation personal sins is for a person to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and God will forgive their sins, give them His righteousness and they will be saved.

This brings us to the solution to post-salvation personal sins from sin nature control of the soul. God's solution for that is the acknowledgement of any known sin to God that we describe as rebound because of what God does after we acknowledge any known sin to Him.

1John 1:9; "If we acknowledge (admit, cite, or name) our sins, He (God the Father) is faithful and just (righteous) with the result that He forgives us our sins (post-salvation sins of cognizance), and cleanses (purifies) us from all wrongdoing (post-salvation sins of ignorance)."

The substitution of self-judgment for divine discipline is the subject of 1Cor 11:31; "If we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged." This tells us that self-judgment is equivalent to the confession of any known sins.

So forgiveness and restoration to fellowship results in the recovery of the filling of the Holy Spirit that reenters the believer into God's spiritual power system is based on the fact that God has already judged the personal sins that are being cited or self judged on Jesus Christ at the cross.

This recognition of the actual reality and self judgment for it resolves the sin trend of the old sin nature. Rebound means to stand up, look God in the face cite your sins, and know with absolute confidence that He has judged it and therefore He forgives you. Heb 4:16;

This is the only way we can be extracted from satan's cosmic system and restored into God's spiritual power system through the recovery of the filling ministry of the God Holy Spirit, who now again controls our soul.

There are two different mandates for spirituality; Gal 5:16; "walk by means of the Spirit" and Eph 5:18; "keep on being filled with the Spirit." Eph 5:18; refers to the Holy Spirit controlling your soul by defeating the old sin nature and its fragmentation and Gal 5:16; refers to life and function inside God's spiritual power system in that status quo in the devil's world.

Through the use of judgment and condemnation God solves the two categories of problems created by the old sin nature. He judged all personal sins at the cross and He judges all human good works that include human good and evil for the believer at their evaluation by Jesus Christ and for the unbeliever at the Last Judgment.

The first phase of this process was God's judgment at the cross. All of the personal sins of the world were called up and dumped on Jesus Christ and judged by God the Father.

This was the first and most important judgment of all of the production of old sin nature throughout human history and is the basis of our salvation that we obtain through personal faith in Jesus Christ. This was the abrogation of the power and ruler ship of the old sin nature, 1Pet 2:24; 2Cor 5:19;

However, under the law of volitional responsibility, our sins, though judged at the cross, still have consequences because we are responsible for the function of our negative volition to commit them and that how we cause most of our own suffering during our life in our biological body in time.

This requires the second phase where must judge ourselves by acknowledging any known sin to God. 1John 1:9; 1Cor 11:31;

The third phase is when the human good and evil of every believer is judged at the Judgment Seat of Christ immediately after the exit resurrection,

1Cor 3:12-16. "Wood, hay and stubble" refers to the entirety of human good the believer has done during their life in a biological body that Jesus Christ will destroy because it is a work of the devil.

At the Great White Throne Judgment, Rev 20:12-15, the unbeliever is resurrected and brought before the Lord Jesus Christ whom he rejected.

His sins that have already been judged in Jesus Christ at the cross are not mentioned. Instead, his human good is added up from the book of works.

Since human good is a work of the devil it can only add up to negative righteousness, that cannot have fellowship with God's perfect righteousness, and so he is cast alive into the Lake of Fire along with the devil forever.

Periodically during the course of human history God also judges evil by permitting wars to occur otherwise humanity would self destruct from their production of human good in the devil's world.

The evil production of human good continues on right into and throughout Jesus Christ's rule in the Millennium, as seen in the Gog and Magog Revolution but evil must be always eventually be met, defeated, and destroyed. Rev 20:7-10;

There will be no old sin nature in the resurrection body. Phil 3:21; "Who (Jesus Christ) will change the body of our humiliation (old sin nature) into conformity with the body of His glory (resurrection body of Jesus Christ) on the basis of the operational power by which He Himself is able to subordinate all things to Himself."

At the moment of salvation adjustment to God's justice through faith in Christ, God's justice imputes God's righteousness to the believer, setting up the grace pipeline for blessing from God's justice.

God's perfect Justice is at the source end and God's perfect righteousness is at the receiving end. This pipeline is secured and encapsulated by God's holy integrity. Righteousness demands righteousness; justice demands justice; whatever God's righteousness demands God' justice executes.

Therefore at salvation, perfect righteousness demands thirty- nine other factors to come through the grace pipeline. From salvation to maturity, perfect righteousness demands logistical blessing to sustain believers in the devil's world in their biological sin nature infused bodies.

At the point of spiritual maturity, perfect righteousness demands special supergrace blessings. For just as justice can condemn us; justice must also have a policy for blessing us. That policy is grace.

At the moment of salvation, the baptism of the Spirit also occurs, that cancels the ruling power of the old sin nature over biological human life. This positional abrogation or cancellation provides the basis and the potential for experiential cancellation that we must make volitional choices to opt for after we are saved.

This potential comes from the baptism of the Holy Spirit that establishes us in union with Jesus Christ in retroactive and current positional truth. Retroactive positional truth identifies us with Jesus Christ in His spiritual death, physical death and burial. In spiritual death, Christ also rejected and defeated human good and evil by accepting the imputation and judgment of all personal sins.

In His physical death, Christ was totally separated from good and evil. That means in retroactive positional truth we are positionally separated from good and evil.

In His burial, He was divorced from good and evil; so through positional truth we are also divorced from good and evil positionally. Therefore in our identity in Christ we have also positionally rejected human good and evil.

This all creates potential. In this case that potential plus capacity from our cognition of the appropriate doctrinal information reveals to us that through our union with Christ from the baptism of the Holy Spirit God has established an irrevocable encapsulated environment for us to occupy in our sin infused biological body in the devil's world during our life in time.
