In our study of Romans we are looking at the doctrine of the old sin nature where last time we were noting how God defeats the sin nature positionally at the moment of salvation with the baptism of the Spirit that also cancels the ruling authority of the old sin nature over biological human life.
We noted that this positional abrogation or cancellation is the predicate that establishes the potential for experiential cancellation that requires that we learn to make consistent positive volitional choices for after we are saved.
This potential comes from the baptism of the Holy Spirit that places us into union with Jesus Christ in retroactive and current positional truth.
Retroactive positional truth identifies us with Jesus Christ in His spiritual death, physical death and burial. In spiritual death, Christ also rejected and defeated all human good and evil when He accepted the imputation and judgment of all personal sins committed in human history.
In His physical death, Christ was totally separated from human good and evil. That means in retroactive positional truth we are also positionally separated from human good and evil.
In His burial, He was divorced from human good and evil; so through positional truth we are also positionally divorced from good and evil. That means that in our identity in union with Christ we have also positionally rejected human good and evil.
This all creates a potential. In this case that potential plus capacity from our cognition of the appropriate doctrinal information reveals to us that through our union with Christ from our baptism by the Holy Spirit at salvation God has established an irrevocable encapsulated environment for us to occupy in our sin infused biological body in the devil's world during our life in time that is protected by God's power.
Doctrine is always the predicate for capacity. The reality of the encapsulated environment that we have is greater than the perfect environment of the Garden of Eden even though it is in the fallen state of the devil's world.
God encapsulates our blessings and conveys them to us in the devil's world in an environment that He provides (God's spiritual power system) that is independent from all historical circumstances in the devil's world.
Because satan's policy is good and evil and the function of the old sin nature is also good and evil, the old sin nature and satan cooperate as long as good and evil are being produced. But whenever the old sin nature produces sin, this is an embarrassment to satan because satan is trying to establish the Millennium before Jesus comes back.
This retroactive positional truth establishes the basis for our experiential renunciation and victory over the old sin nature's trends of sin, human good, and evil.
Through the baptism of the Holy Spirit, we have retroactive positional truth that is positional separation as well as rejection and divorcement from Adam's old sin nature trend.
This abrogates the sovereignty of the old sin nature over human life. It also provides a "life with God" on this earth, Rom 6:11; The old sin nature, however, is still located in the cell structure of the biological body of corruption, and is still transmitted through the twenty- three male chromosomes in conception.
That old sin nature still has to be there, because these same cells are part of our biological body and therefore our physical life that means that as long as we are alive in this body of corruption we have an old sin nature and that means that we will never completely stop sinning, 1 John 1:8;
But the trends toward sin, good and evil, while still in our body, are at least positionally broken. So at salvation, we enter God's spiritual power system, but the old sin nature is not changed or eradicated but the metabolization of doctrine gives us more and more power to resist the temptations of the old sin nature.
While the power and rulership of the old sin nature over human life is destroyed positionally after salvation as described in Romans chapter 6. Romans chapter 7 tells us that the trends of Adam still function in the believer's life after salvation.
The contradiction between the positional destruction of the old sin nature's power at salvation through the baptism of the Holy Spirit and the frustration of still following the trends of the old sin nature is the subject of Romans 7, and described in Rom 7:15; Rom 7 is the story of the battle between the two husbands after salvation.
The continued function of the old sin nature after salvation in spite of retroactive positional truth indicates the necessity for Bible doctrine resident in the soul plus the filling of the Holy Spirit to experientially defeat the sin nature. That is why the filling of the Holy Spirit combined with epignosis Bible doctrine is required for experiential sanctification.
The pattern for the believer's carnality or sinfulness depends upon how must time he spends in satan's cosmic system rather than in God's spiritual power system.
But the believer has been given the opportunity for instantaneous recovery from sin nature control of the soul by taking advantage of God's solution of rebound adjustment to God's justice.
Rebound is the choice to use the option of being alive to God, 1Cor 3:1. But we do not confess good and evil because they remain as the unresolved issue in the angelic conflict that is being determined throughout the course of human history so they have not yet been judged.
Entering into God's spiritual power system by becoming filled with the spirit completely neutralizes the functions of the sin nature in sin, human good and evil. Believers can only execute God's protocol plan for the Church Age when they are filled with the spirit.
This means that rebound is necessary because of personal sins committed after salvation but sin is not the major problem after salvation. The major problem is the function of human good and evil and these go unchecked apart from Bible doctrine in the soul, Rom 7:15-20;
After salvation any believer can develop three patterns of sinfulness in their life in time. Frequent sinning is when the believer spends most of his life in satan's cosmic system.
Occasional sinning occurs when the believer spends more time God's power system than in satan's cosmic system because he uses rebound and the PMA of Bible doctrine.
Sporadic sinning occurs when the believer who consistently functions in God's power system has developed spiritual momentum from their advance through the stages of spiritual adulthood in God's power system.
Inside the God's spiritual power system there is only virtue and there can be no sin, human good or evil 1John 5:18; All decisions for sin, human good and evil are only made when the believer is functioning in satan's cosmic system.
God created man as a perfect creature and that means God did not create the old sin nature. By His very essence, God cannot sin, God cannot tempt to sin and/God cannot solicit sin. Sin originated in the human race through Adam's free negative volition.
Satan, the original sinner and the inventor of sin, tempted the woman. So the original solicitation to sin came from satan the original sinner. The origin of sin came from the cognizant choice that Adam made to disobey God from his own free will.
The woman tempted Adam after her fall but Adam, from his own volition, knowing what he was doing, manufactured the old sin nature by rejecting God's authority and choosing from his own free will to violate God's prohibition to not eat the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
By doing so at that moment, Adam sinned and he manufactured the old sin nature that contaminated his body making it a body of corruption, contamination and spiritual death. Because the man's sin was a sin of cognizance, he is the transmitter of the old sin nature to the entire human race and he was also the ruler of the world at the time so he was responsible.
Through negative volition to God's prohibition, Adam is the author of sin in the human race. Through conception, Adam propagates the old sin nature, 1Tim 2:14; explains how both original parents were under the condemnation of spiritual death.
Both were guilty. But the old sin nature is transmitted from the man because his sin was a sin of cognizance. The woman's sin was done in ignorance.
The twenty-three male chromosomes that fertilize the female ovum carry the old sin nature. Psa 51:5-6;"born in iniquity" refers to the imputation of Adam's original sin to the old sin nature at birth, resulting in spiritual death. At conception, the twenty-three male chromosomes that fertilize the female ovum transmit the old sin nature.
The trends of each person's old sin nature are different, just as genes combine to form different physical features, different personalities and attitudes. Psa 58:3 tells us that some people are born liars, others cultivate it so they can use it for profit in the devil's world.
Psa 58:3 says we are all "gone astray out from the womb." We are born with personal weaknesses. It is the genetic home of the old sin nature that produces our weaknesses.
This is the definition of total depravity. "All we like sheep have gone astray." Sheep have trends but no thought. Each of us are different in old sin nature variations and trends. Once you master your primary weaknesses, you will then discover your secondary weaknesses, then your tertiary weaknesses, etc. The old sin nature does not and cannot ever please God, Rom 8:8.
Neither sins, acts of human good, nor the function of evil are in any way related to God or the Christian life. Ignorance of doctrine has led many believers to adopt the functions of human good and evil and to misconstrue them as the Christian life. This is one of the great distortions of human history.
Most people don't know that good and evil comes from the sin nature so good and evil are running unabated in the human race since they were not judged at the cross.
With the exception of antinomians most believers try not to commit personal sins as a part of their Christian life. But many believers try to live the Christian life by functioning in human good that is evil. They actually think God rewards and blesses them because He is pleased with their human good and evil.
Isa 64:6, "All our righteousnesses are as filthy rags"; this is describing human good. "Wither like a leaf" refers to overcoming a primary weaknesses then succumbing to a secondary weaknesses.
If you gave up something before you were saved, it wasn't God that did it; it was sheer human determination that can only result in self- righteousness. When we think we are strong, we are actually weaker than before.
It is fine and legitimate when primary weaknesses are overcome by the filling of the Holy Spirit and metabolized Bible doctrine but this takes time and involves spiritual advance. But to do so by your own human energy and self determination means you are withering like a leaf.
In self-righteousness, secondary weaknesses will destroy you even though the primary weaknesses did not. Secondary weaknesses are just as potent and often more destructive.
When primary weaknesses are removed without Bible doctrine a vacuum is set up in the soul that sucks in arrogance. That is how sin and human good combine to form evil.
The proper means for removing primary weaknesses is through spiritual growth. At each stage of spiritual growth, new weaknesses will be discovered. But they are all handled in the same way.
But when the believer gives these things up in the energy of the flesh, all he does is guarantee that his secondary weaknesses will be more obnoxious than his primary ones.
He will never grow because he is too proud of what he has done, and so jealous of others that all growth is immediately halted, and the perspective of the Christian life by means of the filling of the Holy Spirit plus Bible doctrine is lost.
Eph 2:3, "lusts" refer to primary, secondary or tertiary weaknesses; "flesh" refers to the old sin nature. Reversionists do not resist the old sin nature at all, Heb 12:4.
The old sin nature is not a part of the resurrection body of the believer, Phil 3:18-21; 1John 3:1-4; 1Cor 15:51-57. This is the doctrine of ultimate sanctification, where the old sin nature along with all of its production of sin, human good and evil are excluded from eternity. 2Pet 3:10;
