In our study of Romans we are between chapters 7 and 8 in a topical study of the old sin nature.
Last time we noted that at that at the moment Adam sinned he manufactured the old sin nature that contaminated his body making it a body of corruption, contamination and spiritual death. Because the man's sin was a sin of cognizance, he became the transmitter of the old sin nature to the entire human race and as the ruler of the world at the time he was also responsible.
Through negative volition to God's prohibition, Adam is the author of personal sin and the old sin nature in the human race. Through conception, Adam propagates the old sin nature,
1Tim 2:14; explains how both original parents became under the condemnation of spiritual death. They wanted to eat of the fruit so they did it. Both were guilty. But the old sin nature is transmitted from the man because his sin was a sin of cognizance. The woman was deceived so her sin was committed in ignorance.
The twenty-three male chromosomes that fertilize the female ovum carry the old sin nature. At conception, the twenty-three male chromosomes that fertilize the female ovum transmit the old sin nature.
Psa 51:5-6;"born in iniquity" refers to the imputation of Adam's original sin to the genetically formed old sin nature at physical birth that results in spiritual death.
The trends of each person's old sin nature are different, just as genes combine to form different physical features, different personalities and attitudes.
Psa 58:3; tells us that some people are born liars; others cultivate it so they can use it to their advantage in the devil's world. "Go astray from the womb." tells us that we are born with personal weaknesses and tendencies. It is the genetically formed old sin nature that establishes our weaknesses.
This is the definition of total depravity. "All we like sheep have gone astray." Sheep have trends but no thought. Each of us has different old sin nature variations and trends.
Once you overcome your primary weaknesses, you will then discover that you have a secondary weaknesses, and then a tertiary weaknesses, etc.. etc. The old sin nature does not and cannot ever please God, Rom 8:8.
Neither personal sins, acts of human good, nor the function of evil are in any way related to God or the Christian life. Ignorance of doctrine has led many believers to adopt the functions of human good and evil and to misconstrue them as part of the Christian life. This is one of the greatest distortions of human history.
Most people don't know that good and evil comes from the sin nature so good and evil are running unabated in the human race since they were not judged at the cross.
With the exception of antinomians most believers try not to commit personal sins as a part of their Christian life. But many believers try to live the Christian life by functioning in human good that is evil. They actually think God rewards and blesses them because He is pleased with their human good and evil.
"All our righteousnesses are like a filthy garment" Isa 64:6, is describing human good. "Wither like a leaf" refers to overcoming a primary weaknesses then succumbing to a secondary weaknesses.
If you gave up something before you were saved, it wasn't God that did it; it was sheer human determination that can only result in self- righteousness and when we think we are strong, we are actually weaker than before.
It is fine and legitimate when primary weaknesses are overcome by the filling of the Holy Spirit and metabolized Bible doctrine but this takes time and involves persistent and consistent spiritual advance. To do so by your own human energy and self determination means you are withering like a leaf.
In self-righteousness, secondary weaknesses will destroy you even though the primary weaknesses did not. Secondary weaknesses are just as deadly and are often more destructive.
When primary weaknesses are removed without the filling ministry of the Holy Spirit and Bible doctrine a vacuum is set up in the soul that sucks in arrogance. That is how sin and human good combine to form evil.
The proper means for removing primary weaknesses is through spiritual growth. At each stage of spiritual growth, new weaknesses will be discovered. But they are all handled with God's power not human power.
But when the believer gives these things up in the energy of the flesh, all he does is guarantee that his secondary weaknesses will be more destructive than his primary ones.
Believers who use the strong side of the sin nature will never grow because they are proud of what they have done, and they are also so jealous of others who they think may be better than them that all growth is immediately halted and the perspective of the Christian life by means of the filling ministry of God the Holy Spirit plus Bible doctrine is lost.
Eph 2:3, in this verse "lusts" refer to primary, secondary or tertiary weaknesses; "flesh" refers to the old sin nature. Reversionistic believers have rejected Bible doctrine so they do not resist the old sin nature at all, Heb 12:4.
The old sin nature is not a part of the resurrection body of the believer, Phil 3:18-21; 1John 3:1-4; 1Cor 15:51-57. This is the doctrine of ultimate sanctification, where the old sin nature along with all of its production of sin, human good and evil are excluded from eternity with God. 2Pet 3:10;
The sin nature is the source of temptation, but human volition is the source of sin. The old sin nature creates temptation for sin, human good and evil but it cannot succeed apart from volitional consent.
That means that the volition guards the gate of the soul from the old sin nature's temptations so no one ever sins apart from volitional consent from his own free will.
Whether sins of cognizance of sins of ignorance, the volition of the soul is involved in every sins. You wanted to do it so you did it so ignorance is no excuse.
The old sin nature resides in the biological body so it must penetrate the soul for sin to be produced. This cannot be done without the volitional consent of the soul.
When the old sin nature's temptations become sin through volitional consent, the old sin nature not only controls the soul, but the believer resides in the satan's cosmic system.
This reveals that the old sin nature is satan's inside agent that is recruiting for his cosmic system. Therefore, the believer is only pure and free from sin when functioning under the filling ministry of God the Holy Spirit and this status can only be recovered by a free will choice to acknowledge any known sin.
In satan's cosmic system morality has no virtue so it is hypocrisy. The only place that morality has virtue and integrity is inside God's spiritual power system because morality in satan's cosmic system always eventually succumbs to temptation that produces sin, human good and evil.
This brings us to a topical study of the doctrine of spirituality that is God's remedy for sin nature control of the believer's soul.
God is perfect so His plan is perfect so contradictions cannot exist in God's perfect protocol plan for the Church. The problem is that humans are imperfect. Being imperfect, we need power from God so that we can execute His perfect plan.
God's grace has provided the power options of the filling ministry of God the Holy Spirit and the PMA of the mystery doctrine of the Church Age to eliminate these contradictions.
This means that any remaining contradictions are the result of human negative volition in the categories of sin, and the parlaying of human good into dead works, and dead works into evil.
Sin, human good, and evil are produced when the believer functions outside of God' operational spiritual power system because when the believer functions inside of Gods power system the believer is controlled by the Holy Spirit under the principle of Eph 5:18; "keep on being filled with the Spirit" and in that status the believer does not succumb to the sin nature, Gal 5:16;
Spirituality is a term that is used to describe the function of the "filling ministry of God the Holy Spirit." Therefore, when we are in a state of sin, or performing human good, or evil works, we are not spiritual because we are outside of the functional power provided by God so we are in satan's cosmic system where the sin nature controls the soul.
The filling ministry of God the Holy Spirit (or spirituality) is an absolute. At any given time the believer's soul is controlled by God the Holy Spirit or by the sin nature because the filling of the spirit aka spirituality and sin nature control of the soul aka carnality are mutually exclusive.
This means that spirituality and carnality are absolutes and the Christian way of life demands spirituality, 1John 1:6-7; 1John 2:10-11; 1John 3:4-9. You are either filled with the Holy Spirit or you are not. You either reside in Gods spiritual power system or you reside in satan's cosmic system.
Every time a believer sins, he steps outside of God's power system and uses his volition to commit that personal sin. He enters one of satan's cosmic systems cosmic one or cosmic two. Cosmic one is when the believer grieves the Holy Spirit cosmic two is when the believer quenches the Holy Spirit.
Spirituality and carnality are mutually exclusive absolutes. If you are filled with the Spirit you are not committing sin, or out of fellowship but if you are in satan's cosmic system you are not spiritual.
The believer is only spiritual when the Holy Spirit controls his soul, and that is how he lives inside the God's spiritual power system. The believer is described as carnal when the old sin nature controls his soul.
God doesn't do something partially. He either does it, or He doesn't do it. God the Holy Spirit either completely controls your soul or He does not.
The believer can be described as a protocol Christian when he resides inside the God's spiritual power system. The believer can be described as a cosmic Christian when he resides in satan's cosmic system.
The believer who is in fellowship with God is described in two different ways. He can be described as spiritual in the sense that the Holy Spirit controls his soul because he resides inside of God's spiritual power system.
He can also be described as a protocol Christian in the sense that, when he is residing in God's spiritual power system, he is precisely executing God's protocol plan and gaining momentum from the PMA of Bible doctrine.
The believer who is out of fellowship can be described as a carnal Christian because the old sin nature controls that believer or he can be described as a cosmic Christian because that believer is residing in satan's cosmic system.
If two believers are spiritual you cannot say one is more spiritual than the other because any believer who is filled with the Spirit is filled as much as any other believer.
The relative concept of the Christian life is based on spiritual growth from the PMA of Bible doctrine, or lack of growth from ignorance of or rejection of Bible doctrine.
Spiritual growth is the relative concept of the Christian life. Spirituality, the absolute concept of the Christian life begins at the moment of salvation. At the moment we believe in Jesus Christ we are filled with the Holy Spirit and entered into God's spiritual power system.
Six of the ministries of God the Holy Spirit at salvation are permanent and irrevocable. They never change no matter how much our experiential status may change.
Efficacious grace is where God the Holy Spirit takes faith in Jesus Christ alone and makes it effective for salvation.
Regeneration occurs when God the Holy Spirit creates a human spirit in the new believer for the imputation of eternal life by God the Father.
Eternal life is imputed to the human spirit, John 3:1-6; Titus 3:5. The Holy Spirit is the agent of the new birth.
The baptism of the Holy Spirit, Acts 1:5; 1Cor 12:13; Eph 4:5; enters us into union with Christ as a new spiritual species and a member of God's royal family. Gal 3:26-27; Gal 4:6-7;
The Holy Spirit indwells us to provide a temple for the indwelling of Christ, 1Cor 6:19-20; 1Cor 3:16.
The sealing of the Holy Spirit, in when He stamps His seal on us so we can never lose our salvation. Eph 4:30, Eph 1:13; 2Cor 1:22; God has put a seal on every believer because every believer is valuable and belongs to Him.
Every believer has a spiritual gift, 1Cor 12:11.
Only the filling ministry of God the Holy Spirit is temporary because it is experiential so maintaining it depends on our volition to choose to persist inside God's spiritual power system.
Contradictions cannot exist in God's protocol plan for the Church so the first personal sin we commit after we are saved puts us back under the control of the old sin nature inside of satan's cosmic system. Recovery requires the acknowledgement of any known personal sin to God the Father. 1John 1:9;
