In our study of Romans we are between chapters 7 and 8 in a topical study of spirituality.
When we stopped last time we had noted that it is imperative for believers to understand the distinctions between the indwelling of the Spirit and the filling of the Holy Spirit because the function of the indwelling and the function of the filling of the Holy Spirit are not the same.
The indwelling of the Holy Spirit functions inside the human body and is permanent and irrevocable. The filling of the Spirit functions inside of the human spirit with the human soul and is transient or temporary because it is conditional.
The purpose of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit is to provide a temple in our bodies for the indwelling of Jesus Christ as God's Shekinah Glory for God's Royal Family. This is the same Shekinah glory that resided in Israel's tabernacle and the temple.
The indwelling of the Spirit that is related to the believer's body is taught in 1Cor 3:16; 1Cor 6:19-20; and 2Cor 6:16.
Jesus Christ indwells our bodies as the Shekinah Glory that is a guarantee of God's blessing. He could not indwell our bodies where the old sin nature resides unless God the Holy Spirit provided a temple for Him so when we are born again the Holy Spirit creates a temple in our bodies for the residence of God' the Son.
The indwelling of the Holy Spirit is directed toward God and it is permanent so it is not affected by the believer's temporal transient experiential status in carnality or spirituality. Every believer is always indwelled by the Holy Spirit regardless of their experiential status.
The words translated "unction" and "anointing" in the New Testament are synonymous with the "indwelling" of the Holy Spirit, not the filling ministry or the baptism ministry of the Spirit.
The baptism of the Holy Spirit breaks the old sin nature's uninterrupted rule positionally through the momentary application of retroactive and current positional truth,
The indwelling of the Holy Spirit breaks the uninterrupted rule of the old sin nature experientially through the function of current positional truth, Gal 5:17.
The filling of the Holy Spirit is related to the believer's residence in God's spiritual power system, and the function of God's power in believer's soul through the human spirit.
When the Holy Spirit controls the believer's soul, that believer is described as being filled with the Spirit and that is one of the meanings of being described as spiritual.
When the believer is filled with the Spirit he is also operating inside of God's spiritual power system that is another meaning of being spiritual.
We see from this that the indwelling of the Spirit relates to the believer's body and the filling of the spirit relates to the believer's spirit and his soul and the ability the believer to deploy and operate in God's power from the function of God's spiritual power system that functions under the filling ministry of God the Holy Spirit.
The purpose for the filling of the Holy Spirit is to provide the believer the enabling power for the execution of God's protocol plan through consistent PMA of spirit taught epignosis Bible doctrine.
Just as the enabling power of the Holy Spirit is necessary for common and efficacious grace in salvation the enabling power of the Holy Spirit is also required for the cognition of God's Word of Truth that is necessary for the believer to function inside of to execute God's protocol plan.
Believers cannot do anything in God's plan apart from the filling of the Spirit because God's plan is spiritual. It works through the human spirit functioning with God the Holy Spirit directing the soul that in turn through volition directs the body.
The filling of the Spirit is directed toward the believer's weak humanity. It is how God conveys the potential to deploy His power through weak human beings. 2Cor 12:9-10;
The filling of the Spirit is temporary or transient, depending on whither God the Holy Spirit or sin nature experientially controls the believer's soul at any given moment.
Post-salvation sinning removes the believer from God's spiritual power system where he is no longer filled with the Spirit. Acknowledgment of known personal sins to God as described in 1John 1:9; is the recovery procedure whereby the believer recovers the filling of the Spirit and reenters God's spiritual power system.
The filling of the Holy Spirit inside of God's spiritual power system is the enabling power that combines with epignosis Bible doctrine for the execution of God's plan, will, and purpose for each believer's life. Since God is perfect and His plan is perfect, His plan demands God's perfect power to use it.
There are two basic experiential concepts by which God's protocol plan is executed. The absolute concept that is the filling of the Holy Spirit and the relative concept that is spiritual growth and spiritual momentum from the PMA of Bible doctrine under the teaching ministry of God the Holy Spirit inside of God's spiritual power system.
Believers who do not understand or use Gods' recovery system to recover spirituality remain in a state of carnality where instead of being spiritual they develop a system of pseudo spirituality that is based on the body and the soul performing spiritually dead human works of legalism asceticism, ritualism and emotionalism.
However human works does not accomplish spirituality because the filling of the Spirit is not the work of man; it is exclusively the work of God. It is the only means whereby believers can acquire and use God's omnipotent power to execute God's perfect protocol plan.
Different authors of scripture use different words to describe the filling of the Spirit. We see Paul's vocabulary in Gal 5:16, "Walk by means of the Spirit." and Eph 5:18, "Keep on being filled with the Spirit." John's vocabulary in 1John 1:7, "walk in the light." Peter's vocabulary in 2Pet 1:4; "partakers of the divine nature."
The believer's confidence regarding the filling of the Spirit comes from understanding, believing and executing the relevant doctrine, 1John 2:20-21; 1John 3:20-21;
God's Word documents the difference between spirituality and carnality. 2Cor 3:17-18; "Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. But we all, with an unveiled face seeing as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, as it were from the Lord the Spirit."
"The Lord the Spirit" means that God the Holy Spirit is God. The Spirit of the Lord is inside God's spiritual power system, not inside the Mosaic Law. This is why there is spiritual freedom inside God's spiritual power system but not in the Mosaic Law.
The Church Age believer has an unveiled face so they can learn and understand the mystery doctrine of the Church Age that was hidden from Old Testament believers but Jesus Christ revealed it.
As the believer listens to the communication of God's Word by the pastor teacher Jesus Christ becomes their best friend, and they move into the status of occupation with Christ.
This is seeing the glory of the Lord in a mirror from learning Bible doctrine. The Lord's glory is seen and understood from Bible doctrine.
When we study God's Word daily we are transformed into the same image as that of our Lord Jesus Christ in His perfect unglorified humanity.
"From glory to glory" refers to going from the glory of the Spirit filled humanity of Christ in the prototype version of God's spiritual power system to the glory of the Spirit-filled mature believer who executes God's protocol plan inside of the operational version of God's spiritual power system.
Eph 3:16; "That He may give you on the basis of the riches of His glory to become strong by means of power through His Spirit in your inner being."
The riches of Christ's glory to Church Age believers includes things that were never given to any believers in history before: the baptism of the Holy Spirit, membership in God's Royal Family, God's protocol plan, a portfolio of invisible assets, a royal priesthood and a royal ambassadorship, the mystery doctrine of the Church Age, the indwelling of the Trinity, the unique availability of God's power, in a dispensation of historical trends with unlimited potential as invisible heroes.
"To become strong," means the filling of the Holy Spirit inside God's operational spiritual power system. To acquire strength means to control your soul by developing momentum from metabolized doctrine under the omnipotence of God the Holy Spirit inside God's spiritual power system.
We acquire strength through the teaching ministry of the Holy Spirit inside the God's spiritual power system, John 14:26; John 16:12-14; 1Cor 2:9-16;
The filling of the Holy Spirit is the basis for the believer establishing capacity for spiritual freedom. The predicate for freedom is God's Word of Truth the predicate for slavery is satan's lie.
Gal 5:1, "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Keep standing fast, therefore, and do not be entangled again in the yoke of slavery (sin nature control of the soul)."
Gal 5:13-18, "For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh (the sin nature), but through virtue-love serve one another.
v14 For the entire Law has been summed up in one doctrine; `You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'
v15 But if you bite and devour one another, beware that you are not destroyed by one another.
v16 Therefore, I command you: keep walking by means of the Spirit, and you will not carry out the lust pattern of the flesh (the sin nature).
v17 For the flesh (the sin nature) desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit is against the flesh [sin nature]; for these are constantly opposed to one another, so that you may not do the things you wish to do.
v18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law."
We serve one another in our ambassadorship through the function of our spiritual gift for the benefit of God's Royal Family, the Body of Christ that is the church.
The freedom we have is not human power. We are not free to do anything we want. We are free to learn and deploy Bible doctrine under the filling ministry of God the Holy Spirit.
Never in history, before the Church Age or after the exit resurrection, will every believer have the freedom to execute a supernatural plan that depends entirely on God's power.
Walking by means of the Spirit means to function inside of God's spiritual power system.
Gal 5:22-23; "But the production of the Spirit is virtue-love, happiness, capacity for prosperity (peace), patience, integrity, generosity, faithfulness, humility, self-discipline; against such things there is no law."
Gal 5:25-25; "If we live by the Spirit, let us advance by means of the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, challenging each other, being jealous of each other."
Jealousy is a manifestation of arrogance that involves inordinate ambition and inordinate competition. As an emotional sin, it is irrational in its resentment of others because it does not recognize God's grace policy.
Jealousy is directed toward self as the subject and toward people as the object. It is a major stumbling block in the attainment of spiritual self-esteem. It is destructive wherever you find it.
Jealousy is a major function of self-righteous arrogance, so it is a major motivating factor in Christian immoral degeneracy. Jealousy and the mental attitude sin of jealousy and the filling of the Holy Spirit are mutually exclusive.
Jealousy also goes hand in hand with legalism. Jealousy is tyranny in its simplest form. Where jealousy persists, it destroys human freedom. Jealousy demands love and attention so it does not have the grace orientation necessary to permit people to love from their free own volition.
James 4:5-6; "Or do you presume that the Scripture speaks in vain against jealousy. The Spirit who permanently indwells us pursues us with love. And He gives us more grace. Therefore, it says, `God makes war against the arrogant, but He give grace to the humble.'"
1John 2:27; "And as for you, the anointing (the enabling power of God the Holy Spirit inside God's spiritual power system) which you have received from Him resides in you (the indwelling of the Spirit in the body), and you do not need that anyone be teaching you (making you understand), but as His anointing keeps teaching you (making you understand) all things as it (the enabling power of the Spirit) has taught you. Keep residing in him (by being filled with the Holy Spirit)."
We see here that one of the synonyms for the Holy Spirit's indwelling the believer for the purpose of functioning in God's spiritual power system is "anointing." This is how we, as members of God's Royal Family, fulfill God's plan; not our own plan in our own energy, or ability, but God's plan in the ability and enabling power of the filling ministry of God the Holy Spirit.
