In our verse by verse study of Romans we are in Rom 8:20; at the word translated subjected that is the constantive aorist tense of the Greek word " hupatasso" that describes being subjected over an extended period of time that is comprised of a series of events gathered up into one entirety.

This occurs from the fall of Adam in the Garden of Eden to the second advent of Jesus Christ.

The passive voice: the material universe receives the action of the verb by sharing in the consequences of Adam's original sin.

The creation was innocent sot it endures undeserved suffering until Jesus returns. The indicative mood is declarative, representing the verbal action from the viewpoint of historical reality.

"To futility" - the dative singular indirect object from "mataiotes" (futility, emptiness, vacuum, purposelessness, and in the Attic Greek, nothingness).

Here the noun does not refer to the vacuum created in the soul from the absence of doctrinal truth as noted in Eph 4:17; but to the state of futility that exists in the creation after the fall. So we translated it, "to futility" that means void of purpose.

Rom 8:20; The creation was recreated perfect but is now void of purpose but "not willingly" the negative "ou" (not) plus an independent nominative singular from the adjective "hekon"(willingly).

"But because of him" the adversative conjunction "alla" (but) that is used to join two contrasting phrase. It sets up a contrast between the futility of man apart from God and the futility of nature apart from God.

Then the preposition "dia" (because) plus the accusative singular of the definite article "ho" that in this case is used as a personal pronoun referring to God the Father, the author of the God's plan for mankind "but because of Him."

"Who has subjected it in hope" from the aorist active participle of "hupotasso (subordinated or subjected). The constantive aorist completes the action of the verb in its entirety. The active voice: God the Father produces the action of the verb at the second advent of Jesus Christ.

The participle is circumstantial so in the English we add the word "it" to complete the sentence; "it" refers to the material creation. Plus the preposition "epi" (on the basis of): and the locative of time from "elpis" (hope) "because of hope."

This is a reference to the Second Advent. The time of hope is the activity of the Second Advent when nature is restored from the curse that is described in Isaiah 35.

Expanded Translation Rom 8:20; "For the creation (the material universe) was subordinated to futility against its own will, but because of him (God the Father) who has subordinated it on the basis of hope (the second advent)."

Isa 35:1; "The desert and the wilderness will be ecstatic (qal imperfect of the verb "guwl" that means to dance around in a circle with great happiness; and the desert will rejoice and blossom"

v2 It will blossom profusely (the qal imperfect of "parach." The verb is repeated for intensity so it means to blossom profusely), it will both rejoice with rejoicing and sing with happiness; the glory of Lebanon will be given to it, the majesty of Carmel and Sharon; they will see the glory of the Lord, the majestic royalty of our God."

The material universe suffered when Adam committed the original sin, and since then the material universe has been in bondage under undeserved suffering, waiting eagerly to be delivered by Jesus Christ at the Second Advent.

The undeserved suffering has great blessing connected with it that will be seen the increase of production during the millennium.

The second advent of Christ introduces His millennial reign where nature will be restored to its former capacity in the perfect environment of the Millennium.

Therefore the creation is viewed as anticipating the Second Advent, the time of the revealing of God's sons in resurrection bodies.

The creation shared in the curse of man; therefore it will share in the glory of God's royal family in resurrection. Nature's subordination to futility is obedience to God's integrity that has linked the creation's destiny with the mankind's destiny.

The corruption and disorder in nature at the present time, represents and corresponds to the corruption and disorder in mankind from spiritual death and the sin nature.

The redemption and resurrection of the believer's body is accompanied by the redemption and restoration of the material creation in the Millennium.

In the Millennium perfect environment is going to exist because satan is bound the demons are removed from the earth so there is no propaganda and lies being propagated and there is no religion in Christ's kingdom.

The absence of religion is absolutely necessary because religion is a major part of human good and evil. Religion combines the functions of human good with evil.

Religion is man by man's works seeking to gain God's approbation by doing something that people think is good but is actually evil.

Christianity is not a religion it is a relationship with Jesus Christ.

Perfect environment cannot exist in the world as long as satan is on the loose so in the Millennium there is optimum spirituality among believers in Jesus Christ.

In that day the believers will take their place as the true aristocracy of life they were intended to be. Isa 65:24; Joel 2:28,29; Zech 14:16,17;

In that day the filling of the Spirit will be quite different from the filling of the Spirit today and Israel is restored as God's client nation in the Millennium. Isaiah 5:26-30; 10:19-23; 11:11-16; 65:19; Joel 2:16ff; Zechariah 8:20-23.

God's unconditional covenants to the Jewish people and the nation of Israel will all be fulfilled. Daniel 9:24;

The nations of the earth will enjoy perfect environment under the aegis of the universal reign of Jesus Christ.

There will be universal peace. Psalm 46:9; Isaiah 2:4; Hosea 2:18; Micah 4:3.

In the devil's world there will never ever be any lengthy peace so nations must be prepared for war in order to establish and maintain the principles of peace within the nation.

There will be universal prosperity. Psalm 72:7,16. Free enterprise will operate. The secret to free enterprise is free competition with no government interference. Motivation in free enterprise is honorable profit from fair competition and profit.

Under Jesus' rule for the first time perfect world government will exist. There can never be a perfect world government until Jesus rules. Isaiah 11:1,2; Zechariah 14:9.

There will be a universal knowledge of God. Isaiah 11:9. There will be perfect objectivity in the administration of justice that is an absolute requirement for perfect environment. Isaiah 11:3,4; Psalm 72:12-14.

Perfect environment will exist in nature because creation is released from the bondage of sin. Romans 8:19-22. Plant life will abound Isaiah 35. Animals will lose their ferocity Isaiah 11:6-9; 65:25.

The greatest human population explosion ever will occur in the Millennium.

The baptism of fire removes all unbelievers from the earth's population at the end of the Tribulation so it will be necessity to repopulate the earth in the new civilization. Ezekiel 20:34-38; Matthew 25:31-46.

When satan is released at the end of the 1000 years the Gog revolution will terminate this perfect environment with a revolt against God and therefore a revolt against perfect environment exactly like what happened to garden of Eden by Adam and Eve.

Revolution is never designed to improve man's environment; revolution is always a group of envious have-nots stealing from those who have it.

It is a power-grab by the stealing of power and the overthrow of legitimate authority. Revelation 20:7-10;
