In our verse-by-verse study of Romans last time we completed our Expanded Translation of Rom 8:20; "For the creation (the material universe) was subordinated to futility against its own will, but because of him (God the Father) who has subordinated it on the basis of hope (the second advent)."
We followed that up by looking at some scriptures that describe this restoration at the Second Advent.
In the Millennium the filling of the Spirit will be quite different from the filling of the Spirit today and Israel is restored as God's client nation. Isaiah 5:26-30; 10:19-23; 11:11-16; 65:19; Joel 2:16ff; Zechariah 8:20-23.
God's unconditional covenants to the Jewish people and the nation of Israel will all be fulfilled. Daniel 9:24;
The nations of the earth will enjoy perfect environment under the aegis of the universal reign of Jesus Christ.
There will be universal peace. Psalm 46:9; Isaiah 2:4; Hosea 2:18; Micah 4:3.
In the devil's world there can never ever be any lengthy peace so nations must be prepared for war and have a police force in order to control criminality and establish and maintain the principles of peace within the nation.
There will be universal prosperity. Psalm 72:7,16. Free enterprise will operate without restriction. The secret to free enterprise is free competition with no government interference. Motivation in free enterprise is honorable profit from free and fair competition.
Under Jesus' rule for the first time perfect world government will exist. There can never be world government that works until Jesus is ruling. Isaiah 11:1,2; Zechariah 14:9.
There will be a universal knowledge of God; Isaiah 11:9. There will be perfect objectivity in the administration of justice that is an absolute requirement for perfect environment. Isaiah 11:3,4; Psalm 72:12-14.
Perfect environment will exist in nature because the creation is released from the bondage of Adam/s sin. Romans 8:19-22. Plant life will abound Isaiah 35. Animals will lose their ferocity Isaiah 11:6-9; 65:25.
The greatest human population explosion ever will occur in the Millennium.
The baptism of fire removes all unbelievers from the earth's population at the end of the Tribulation so it will be necessity to repopulate the earth in the new civilization. Ezekiel 20:34-38; Matthew 25:31-46.
When satan is released at the end of the 1000 years the Gog revolution will terminate this perfect environment with a revolt against God that is also a revolt against perfect environment exactly like what happened to garden of Eden with the rebellion of Adam and Eve.
Revolution is never designed to improve man's environment; revolution is always a group of envious have-not parasites stealing from those who have.
It is a power-grab by stealing power and overthrowing legitimate authority. Revelation 20:7-10.
Rom 8:21; "Because the creation itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption." The conjunction "hoti" (that) is used to introduce an inferential clause.
Where the inference is going to involve an analogy following you have "hoti" rather than "oun" because "oun" only draws a conclusion based on the preceding information.
But this is a conclusion that Paul is using to set up analogy to undeserved suffering in the Christian life that is based on the undeserved suffering of the creation.
Then the nominative singular subject from "ktisis" (creation), referring to nature or the material universe, followed by the adjunctive "kai" (and or also), in this case (also) with the attributive use of the intensive pronoun "autos" (itself). "That the creation itself also."
The verb is the future passive indicative tense of "eleutheoo" (set free). In the future passive it is translated "shall be set free."
The predictive future tense refers to the Second Advent and the Millennium. So this is a reference to the amazing changes that will occur in nature when Jesus returns.
The creation that is the material universe receives the action of the verb at the second advent of Jesus Christ at the beginning of the Millennium.
The indicative mood is declarative representing the verbal action from the viewpoint of future historical reality.
Then a prepositional phrase, "apo" (from) plus the ablative of "douleia" (slavery or bondage) with the genitive of reference singular from "phthora" (corruption) plus the definite article "ho" (the).
So we have "The creation itself also shall be set free from the slavery to the corruption." The corruption is monadic so it specifically refers to Adam's original sin as the source.
The corruption is the trend toward sin, good and evil. The material universe or nature shares the bondage of Adam and the entire human race.
In spite of that the creation under the curse still points mankind to the existence of God; Rom1: 20.
However, the creation's slavery to corruption results in man having to work for a living. Man must eke out an existence from digging the ground. The creation shares man's condemnation because of Adam's original sin.
This is why the plants have thorns and there are dangerous, fish wild animals and reptiles. This also explains the crown of thorns that our Lord wore during His crucifixion.
Because the creation is now in slavery to corruption it becomes necessary for God to provide laws for nature just as He has provided the laws of Divine establishment for corrupt humanity.
Rom 8:21;"Into the glorious liberty of the children of God." -
The preposition "eis" (into) plus the accusative singular from "eleutheria" (freedom or liberty) with the article 'ho" (the), "into the freedom or liberty" with the descriptive genitive singular from the noun "doca" (glory or splendor) again with the article "ho" (the) referring specifically to the same glory described in verse 18.
And a genitive plural of reference "teknon" (children) with the article "ho" (the) so we have "with reference to the children," believers in the process of learning God's Word of Truth under the authority of God the Holy Spirit.
Next we have the possessive genitive singular of "Theos" (God) with the article "ho" (the).
The phrase "into the freedom of the glory with reference to the children of the God" referring to believers in ultimate sanctification with a perfect resurrection body with no old sin nature who are returning to the earth with Jesus Christ at the Second Advent.
Church age believers following Jesus in His return will not only have a resurrection body but will be revealed as God's royal family and the bride of Christ.
During the Tribulation the Church as God's royal family is being evaluated and at the Second Advent the church is revealed as the children of God.
Expanded Translation Rom 8:21; "That the creation also will be set free from the slavery to the corruption into the freedom of the glory with reference to the children of the God."
We see here that the creation not only shares the condemnation of mankind but at the Second Advent also shares in the glorification of mankind.
Just as God's justice turns cursing into blessing for mankind, God's justice also turns cursing into blessing for the creation that is a perfect illustration of undeserved suffering for blessing from God.
Christ is the glory of God. The mature believer is the glory of Christ. At the Second Advent the creation is the glory of the glorified believer in Jesus Christ
While nature shares in man's condemnation and corruption, nature will also share in man's glory at the redemption of his body and it's revealing.
The elevation of the believer through the principle of ultimate sanctification means the elevation of nature through ultimate restoration that is restoration to the pristine glory that existed between the time the Holy Spirit restored the earth up to the time of man's fall.
The corruption of nature reveals the corruption of mankind; the future glory of nature reveals the future glory of regenerate mankind.
The beauty of nature at present is analogous to the beauty of the mature believer, both are in the principle of undeserved suffering and yet both have a fantastic beauty that comes out of the process.
So just as beautiful nature suffers as personified in the groaning described in verse 22, likewise the beautiful mature believer suffers as described in verse 23.
